What did "having rein over your household" mean to you in obtaining and maintaining your position in the congregation?
It meant your children couldn't be fornicating and using drugs. That meant your wife couldn't be telling everyone's business all over the congregation (not until after you became a MS or an elder). They had to be good meeting attenders, commenters, and get at least 10 hours a month in field service.

When I was DF'd at age 14 my father was stripped of all his responsibilities because he failed to "rein me in". He couldn't if he tried but the dimwits had to punish someone as their attempt to control me didn't work. Their collective ego was tarnished so dear pops took the rap.

Speaking as a former "offender" and fornicator, my dad had to step down... the pressure of living up to an elders son or daughter is enormous.
