It wil be better covered by other sites (CNN and the like) but I just found out that Pat Tillman, who left a $9 million offer from the St. Louis Rams after playing for the Arizona Cardinals, where he was easily their best defensive player, was killed while fighting in Afghanistan. He was 27.
He left the NFL in his prime to enlist in the Army and attempt to join the Rangers, which he succeed in doing. His brother Kevin, who was a baseball propect for the Cleveland Indians, also join the unit.
This is the definition of heroism. He gave up the fame, riches, and lifestyle of a pro athlete to serve his country, and wilfully put himself in harms' way to do so. While I opposed the Iraq invasion, I thought Bush made the right call on running down the Taliban and Al-Queda where there were. Pat Tillman was one of the guys on the ground.
Lots die every day. Tillman made it known that he didn't want any special treatment. In this case, I respectfully decline his wishes.
A shot of Chinaco Anejo for a hero.
