A religion of doing nothing

  I keep noticing how most of the problems with JWs is that they have a habit of doing nothing in many different situations. They are a religion of doing nothing, unless it serves the organization.

  • They let themselves and their children die... because they don't take blood
  • They do not take action to stop abuse... leaving it in Jehover's Hands (TM)
  • They don't serve in the military
  • They don't vote
  • They don't get involved in the community... unless it is for helping the organization
  • They don't make charitable contributions... unless it is for helping the organization
  • They don't help non-JWs... unless there is a surplus from helping JWs
  • They don't talk to family and friends who are not JW's... shunning
  • They don't interact with non-JW's... unless it is to serve the organization by preaching
  • They don't observe holidays or birthdays

  It seems like the only actions they ever take are things related to selling more books.

  Oh, poor elsewhere,

  How negative. Just look at the list I have here of all the goods works that they have done and continue to do -

  cheeses. A bit more research is needed.

  Ahhh....but you must realize, if there were no Jehovah's Witnesses, there would be no Ex-Jehovah's Witnesses, and therefore this site would not be. So we must thank them for proactively making this site possible!!!

  I would look at it from the other side: They actively avoid doing those things. And aside from serving the organization, the overall behavioral pattern serves to reinforce the collective trance they live in. They are actually very busy doing things to reinforce the JW identity, that frame of mind. You have to with a way of living that is essentially unnatural.

  Although i agree with some of the things that you have said we also need to realise that if everybody led 'their lives' then ideally it would be a perfect world. Although we all know this is impossible, they strive to in a way 'convert' people because they believe that they are doing what is right and helping people.

  As for the comment that JW shun their families that are not part of the KH, i have to say that this is quite unommon where i come from. Having a split amount of Jw's, disfellowshipped Jw's and non-Jw's i have never known this to happen. Speaking from the experience of my mother i do not believe that she would ever be able to ignore her family merely based on a religion.

  That must be for the hard hearted Jw's out there.... xLaurax

  You have a great mum. I know many others can not be so "mum" by giving up love for their social relations (I mean they can not give up friends and relatives when their daughter be disfellowshipped). Did you watch the video "The Watchtower" by Jehovah's Witnesses Ministries Inc.? In this video there is a daughter tried to contatc her parents (elder in congr.) many times since her disfellowship. Their answers always are same "Unless you're back to the congregation..." then the telephone cuts. She burst in tears (it's a live video). Plant some flowers to your mom again.

  Lol, dont think that im gonna tell her you said that... her head might start to swell up . I'm afraid that i haven't seen any such video and quite honestly i think tha is quite absurd. If my mother was to do that i would be absolutely devastated ... you can'y just shun somebody because they do not think the same way as you. How rude is that?? tut tut.

  Well I just say on the first note first start living our own lives, then maybe be concerned with other people, whether they happen to be close to us or whatever. The thing with witnesses believing they are doing the right thing is it's just a belief. If they can do it consciously, I say cool - I can respect that. (I don't see why you would want to but.. I do respect conscious choice) The whole thing from my perspective is just a matter of being free - then if you choose to do it, hey, it's your choice. Of course even if they don't know what they're doing it doesn't make them bad people or anything.

  I don't know where you come from...maybe you come from a place where JWs more friendly with people outside the religion. But my aunt, who is a JW in California, shuns DF family members totally, and limits contact with non-JW familly as much as possible.

  My sister, who is a JW in Idaho, shuns DF family totally (including her own mother ), and limits contact with non-JW family as much as possible.

  Maybe posters from other parts of the country and world can let us know if JWs where they live shun family members?
