The Adventist Movement

After study... I have concluded that the JW's are nothing more than another off-shoot of the Adventist Movement. See below.

The Adventist Movement (Millerites) was started by William Miller (a lay Baptist minister) in 1843 and that created 3 off-shots. The Advent Christian Church, The Life & Advent Union, and the Seventh-Day Adventists (which sprang the Branch Davidians). From The Advent Christan Church came the Adventist Magazine (Nelson H. Barbour) and from that Magazine came Zions WatchTower Magazine (Charles Taze Russell or Russellites which include Modern-day Russellites). From the Russellites came the Chicago Bible Students, the Dawn Bible Students, the Laymens Home Missionary Movement, and Rutherford's Jehovah's Witnesses.

Why doesn't the JW book, "Mankind's Search for God" explain this? They outline all the other reform movements except themselves! They mention nothing of the Adventists AT ALL!

I'm trying to make a list of the MAJOR ADOPTED DOCTRINES that JW's take from the emergence of the Adventist Movement. I've come up with four... perhaps you can add more.

    1) Invisible presence of Christ's advent/coming
    2) New Light
    3) Non-existence of hell
    4) Annihilation of unsaved people

    Whatcha think?

I would not consider invisible presence to be an Adventist belief. After Barbour's prediction that the second coming would occur in 1874 had failed, one of Russell's associates noticed in Benjamin Wilson's Emphatic Diaglott translation that the Greek word parousia was there translated "presence." Russell then convinced Barbour that Christ had returned in 1874 as expected, but invisibly. So even though Barbour himself was an Adventist, the invisible presence doctrine really belonged to the new movement which was to be launched with Russell.

Im an SDA and I think I can add something here.

SDA beleive in a visible comming of christ so thats out.

The early Adventists were Arian some still are of that beleif but most now beleive the trinity doctrine. The Whites, Urih Smith were all Arian. When Martin and Barnhouse studied Adventism the were amazed that both Trinity and Arianism were being taught in official church publications and they allmost classified Adventism as a cult because of it.

Beleif in a year -day principle but the funny part here is it is applied to different prophecys in the two churches. Some Adventists have rejected such principles of interpretation.

Adults are baptised by full immersion .

Many Adventists take a stand against war just as the witnesses do. They enter the armed forces as non combatants. Some also join in active combat roles.

There was one thing that you put on your list that shouldn't be there. Seventh Day Adventists do not believe that Jesus came as a spirit. "Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen." Revelation 1:7 There is one thing you forgot and should add on your list. Seventh Day Adventist believe that Christ is the Archangel. Check this out. "Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, THE LORD REBUKE THEE." Jude 1:9 "And the LORD said unto Satan, THE LORD REBUKE THEE, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire? " Zecariah 3:2 King James Version. "For the LORD HIMSELF shall descend from heaven with a SHOUT, with the VOICE of the ARCHANGEL, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:" Thessalonias 4:16 "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the VOICE OF THE SON OF GOD: and they that hear shall live. " John 5:24,25 ?And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.? Daniel 12:1,2 Am I telling you to go out and join and Adventist church. No I am not. The majority of them will make you get baptised into the name of the trinity even though they have no biblical example of the Apostles doing that. I would like to address your other issues with Adventistim at a later time because they do believe in hell. It's just that it's not going on now. When it does go on it will be on the earth for the burn with the sinners and the devil and his angels but it will not be an eternal fire because one day the fire will go out and God will recreate the Earth so the redemed can come back and guess what we'll even keep the Sabbath at that time too. "But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men." 2nd Peter 3:7 Please also see 2nd Peter 3:10-13. Now picture the redeemed have come back from heaven to inherent the new earth and picture you're there because you knew the Father as the Only True God and Jesus Christ whom he sent as He says do in John 17:3 So you have eternal life and guess what nothing changes as far as the Seventh day goes, it is still God's holy Sabbath day. "For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD. " Isaiah 66:22,23 I am not a Jehovah's Witness. I don't believe Jesus is created but I do believe he was begotten from the Father's own substance for the Messiah's "...goings forth hath been from old, from everlasting" Micah 5:2 King James Version. Goings forth means origin or beginning. I do believe in the divinity of Christ because he inherited all the divine attributes of His Father since He is "the express image of his person" Hebrews 1:3. Express image means exact copy or precise reproduction. Jesus knew what he was saying when He told Nicodemus the gospel. "For God so loved the world, that he gave HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. " John 3:16 This is my prayer for you " that the GOD OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:" Ephesians 1:17
