I was visiting my mother yesterday, and she related some disappointment with, what I believe was last Thursday's meeting. Apparently, in the KM, they were giving instruction on how to behave at this year's convention (as they do every year). However, it was pointed out that when going out to eat after a convention day, that the brothers and sisters should not be laughing loud, or being noisy in general. This made my mother upset, because she loves to laugh. She says, "What are we supposed to do when someone says something funny? Just quietly go tee hee hee? That made me mad!"

Does anyone have this KM? It would be interesting to see what it says.

Nos, I am sure it says the same thing it has always said. This time though, your mom noticed it differently. Tell her not to forget to where her badge when she travels and when she eats, putting others on notice that she is so well behaved and approachable!

well I HAD the km in question, but it was kinda cold the other day so I think we started a woodstove fire with it, sorry. I read the article for some silly reason only to be p'd off at the thorough control the org wants to have over any individuality all in the name of 'how we look' to others. Why any intelligent reasoning person would want to become a part of a 'sham' of such uniformity NOT unity is hard to understand. In my case, I'm neither intelligent nor reasoning so that explains alot LOL.

I remember the recommendation to put a few mags on the deck by the back window of the car to 'witness' to people passing by....sheesh......I didn't do this because I like to go FAST. I haven't got a speeding ticket in a long time, however, the last one was on the way to the DC which was 3 hrs away by highway.....I was clocked at ~140km and that was AFTER I hit the brakes big time.....sheesh

boa....I don't know if its just me but jws also seem to like to complain alot and cheap out on tips when in restaurants WHICH I JUST HATE! If the service or food sucks, boa simply doesn't go back there.....

JW's cannot have fun having fun. At a game night during the first few months of studying at someone's home, after someone trumped me at something (I honestly don't remember what we were playing) I sarcastically remarked "You're gonna get it now." I received a quiet lecture on being a good sport and how my remark was inappropriate. I never went again. Sheesh!

In searching for directions on restaurants, I found this directive

    ***

    km 4/03 p. 7 Announcements ***

No parking tickets will be used, but convention badge cards will serve as identification for parking.

So what if a non-JW comes, a Bible student or spouse? Are they refused a parking spot?

    Right after saying:

    km 4/03 p. 7 Announcements
At all convention sites where we have secured control of the parking facilities, the spaces will be made available at no charge on a first-come, first-served basis.

    They say this

Being aware that considerable expense is involved, we can show our appreciation by making voluntary contributions to the worldwide work at our Kingdom Hall or at the convention. Any checks contributed at the convention should be made payable to "Watch Tower."

I didn't find any direct comment re behavior in restaurants recemtly except this ambiguous statement:

    ***

km 4/03 p. 4 Be an Example in Fine Works ***
The district convention is a time set aside to be taught by Jehovah, and children as well as adults can show respect for this arrangement by their conduct both at the convention site and elsewhere.?Isa. 54:13.

    Other statements farther back are

    ***

    km 5/97 p. 4 1997 "Faith in God?s Word" District Convention ***
Fine conduct is a mark of true Christians. (1 Pet. 2:12) Our behavior wherever we may be?at the convention, at restaurants, and in hotels, as well as when traveling?can give a fine witness and help others to see what faith in God and in his Word can do for people.
Keep in mind that tipping is appropriate when you receive a personal service, especially since many who serve the public, such as waiters, waitresses, maids, and bellmen, are dependent to a large extent on tips to make a living. As Jehovah?s Witnesses, we want to show good manners in this regard too

    ***

km 5/00 p. 6 Maintain Fine Conduct That Glorifies God ***
Whether attending the convention, staying at a hotel, eating in a restaurant, or shopping in a store, we should at all times reflect that we are God?s ministers, giving no cause for stumbling.

    ***

km 5/93 p. 4 Benefit Fully From the 1993 "Divine Teaching" District Convention ***
In restaurants we are polite and courteous to the staff, not rude or demanding if the service does not measure up to our expectations. And we are happy to comply with the custom of leaving a reasonable tip of 15 percent for services rendered.

Gadget, the elders were more politically correct and did it in their hotel rooms. Man, I went to one's room and they had more bottles than the bar downstairs. The figured they could get splotched since they weren't driving anywhere and didn't have to be at the convention site until 10.

Can anyone honestly say they have seen Jehovahs witnesses ever having fun??

I just thought of something funny, go to a convention site and wait until the last song and everyone lets out. follow a big group of witnesses out to a restaurant. Get drunk there, i mean literally plastered and then start singing out the song "we are jehovahs witnesses". Just be real loud and laughing alot. I bet those in the restaurant who are JW's would literally crawl under their seat, I imagine one of the elders in the group would approach the table and counsel us, to which we could reply "we're apostate". what do y'all think? Just thinking about it makes me laugh. BTW- I dont drink, It was just a suggestion for those who do
