Yesterday i had my kids for the weekend. It was my 7 year old boy's birthday. The kids live with the ex who is still a JW so she is still pushing the hard line with the kids.

We gave the boy a suprise party with a cake and presents. He loved it. He was so exicited that he rang his mother and told her all about it last night. It couldn't have gone better.

My daughter has her 9th birthday in two weeks. She is also looking forward to having a party.

I am just so excited to be able to give my kids the life i never had.

Beaker - we know exactly how you feel. It's so nice to see the joy on your kids faces when they get to do all the things we didn't. Priceless.

That is the one thing I wanted most in life, after a wife that i love and kids of course. To have a birthday with like so many friends around and so happy and loving life, so cool. However I guess keeping yourself from killing yourself and having some what of a good life is too pagan for the JWs. I actually asked this one time when i was twelve to my mom, "Hey mom, can't I have a party even if it's not on my birthday?" And she said, "No of course not, that is just like having a birthday and birthdays are a pagan belief." Then I had to read the read the watchtowers for a good hour or so.

It IS such a pleasure to be able to make our children's faces shine with joy, isn't it?!!! , beaker! (As your daughter's won't be a surprise this year, you DO know it should be a surprise next year, don't you? )

((((Obviously))))) -- I once, ONCE, mind you, while I was a JW, gave my daughters a joint "hat decorating party" which was loads of fun and to which worldly classmates and neighbors as well as JW kids were invited. And another time, we had a pizza party with several different kinds of homemade pizza and a scavenger hunt. But I know that even those were looked askance at by some of the members of my congregation. And it does appear that the Society has gotten more and more hardline about NO FUN (even to ice cream or fast food AFTER a weeknight meeting) as the years go by. Grumpy Old [GB] Men!!!

But, you're here, OS, and you will find that it's not too late to realize that dream of yours. It's bittersweet, because it's not done by the parents, but several people here have waited until they were much older than you to have "a birthday with like so many friends around and so happy and loving life." Your day will come, too, I'm sure, if you keep on living and working your way free from Borg control. -- Welcome to the board!

Beaker that's wonderful I can feel the joy he must have felt! That alone is a wonderful gift to validate his special day of birth, I'm sure he's looking forward to next year.

Let us know how your daughter enjoyed he special day will you?
