I bought CJ a unique alarm clock for Mother's Day. It is made by Grundig, and has some real cool features. First of all it is self setting, ( works on FM radio broadcasts ) so if you lose power, it will reset itself, plus it adjusts automatically for daylight savings time. It had dual alarm, sleep timer, calender (day and date) and temperature display. Plus it had the nature sounds you could snooze or wake to besides the radio and buzzer.
But the neatest feature I liked about it was the display. CJ has this thing about light in the bedroom, and prefers it to be dark as pitch when she sleeps, and even lights such as LEDs from the cordless phone or the alarm keypad disturb her. ( I've learned to make my way to the bathroom at night, without stubbing a toe, or walking into something ). She had purchased a new LED Alarm clock a few weeks ago on sale, but the LED on it was so bright, it kept her awake, so she ended up giving it to our son.
So I thought I had the ultimate gift for her here. The display on the clock I purchased was LCD, backlight by the faintest blue hue you could imagine. It just looked soothing. I knew I was going to be a hero with this one!
WRONG. It seems the display on this clock gets brighter as the night goes on, so by 1:00 A.M. in the morning, it's like having an airplane landing light shining in. Now I know there is nothing wrong with the clock. It's just as the night goes on and it gets darker, and of course your pupils dilate, it just seems to get brighter and brighter, till it gets to the point you could open up a book and start reading with it. CJ has tried putting a second layer of tinted film over the display, to no avail.
This morning on my way out the door I told CJ I have nicknamed it the Watchtower? Clock.
Anybody else have expereinces with electronic devices that drove them crazy?
