I bought CJ a unique alarm clock for Mother's Day. It is made by Grundig, and has some real cool features. First of all it is self setting, ( works on FM radio broadcasts ) so if you lose power, it will reset itself, plus it adjusts automatically for daylight savings time. It had dual alarm, sleep timer, calender (day and date) and temperature display. Plus it had the nature sounds you could snooze or wake to besides the radio and buzzer.

But the neatest feature I liked about it was the display. CJ has this thing about light in the bedroom, and prefers it to be dark as pitch when she sleeps, and even lights such as LEDs from the cordless phone or the alarm keypad disturb her. ( I've learned to make my way to the bathroom at night, without stubbing a toe, or walking into something ). She had purchased a new LED Alarm clock a few weeks ago on sale, but the LED on it was so bright, it kept her awake, so she ended up giving it to our son.

So I thought I had the ultimate gift for her here. The display on the clock I purchased was LCD, backlight by the faintest blue hue you could imagine. It just looked soothing. I knew I was going to be a hero with this one!

WRONG. It seems the display on this clock gets brighter as the night goes on, so by 1:00 A.M. in the morning, it's like having an airplane landing light shining in. Now I know there is nothing wrong with the clock. It's just as the night goes on and it gets darker, and of course your pupils dilate, it just seems to get brighter and brighter, till it gets to the point you could open up a book and start reading with it. CJ has tried putting a second layer of tinted film over the display, to no avail.

This morning on my way out the door I told CJ I have nicknamed it the Watchtower? Clock.

Anybody else have expereinces with electronic devices that drove them crazy?

Yes!!! My computer when I leave it on at night. Sometimes I'll let it download some music or video files while I sleep and I hear the hard drive whirring away every 5 minutes. So, I just turn it off if I can't go to sleep. But then the silence gets to me and I can't get to sleep either. So, I turn on my fan and listen to it whir away, but then my nose starts plugging up from the dust in the air and I have to turn the fan off. But then the temperature gets too hot in my room and so I throw off my blanket. I toss and turn and notice the light outside my window lights up my whole bedroom and by then it's already 2 in the morning. Which of course I know all thanks to my alarm clock which has the most dreadful alarm.

Which also reminds me of another alarm clock I bought before. It was the first time the backlights came out and so I thought it'd be rad to have one. I plugged it in and got it set. I thought it was the coolest, until I went to sleep of course. Whenever the room got dark and the backlight was activated, it made a humming sound. Talk about annoying. I couldn't stand it for a whole month. Of course I would've bought me another one but I was in high school and could barely afford anything. So I had to deal with it and finally I got used to the noise.

    Isn't modern technology wonderful?
