What is the Pope's salary? Browsing LUKOL Pope Directory leads us to a thread from a message board, where someone had posed just that question. According to one reply, the Pope's compensation consists of, "a place to stay and something to eat. I'm sure he does not receive a salary as you or I would think of a paycheck." We searched for confirmation and uncovered another site, PopeChart.com. There we found another answer to your question: "The Pope does not receive a salary. He does not even have a bank account."

While the Pope may not draw a formal salary, we are fairly certain the benefits and honor of such a position make up for the lack of paydays. And he does get to live in the Vatican Palace.

Other interesting Pope facts we learned from LUKOL Pope Directory are:

The titles of the Pope: He is Bishop of Rome; Vicar of Jesus Christ; Successor to the Prince of the Apostles; Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Church; Patriarch of the West; Primate of Italy; Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Province of Rome; Sovereign of the Vatican City; and Servant of the Servants of God.

The Pope mobile's license plate number is SCV 1. SCV in Italian stands for: Stato della Citta del Vaticano ( Vatican City State ). Some Romans joke that it is an acronym for "Se Cristo Vedesse" - "if only Christ could see this"

Just because the money is not in his name does not mean he does not control the money of the catholic church.

It may not be his money, but he can spend it (in the name of the church of course) on whatever he wants.

Don't you just love the veil of a corporation?

    HeyNow,

Lots of our elderly wear Depends. If you and I live out to be old enough, we may someday wear them ourselves.

I still remember reading in a popular magazine (Newsweek I think it was) some years ago, at a time when the price for a man's nice pair of dress shoes ran about $10.00, and the article said that the Pope had a pair of boots that cost $200.00. This is the truth. The Pope's feet (because he was THE POPE, ya see) needed to be adorned with footwear that cost 20 times that of the average man's.

Sorry, Yeru, but I say screw the Vatican.
