  AN elderly British couple expressed their shock today after discovering that a card posted to them had been opened by mail workers who added an abusive note expressing regret no money was inside. William and Grace Kill from Oxfordshire, southern England, found the note inside a card posted to them a month previously by a church congregation, thanking the couple for giving a talk.

  The note read: "Dear customer, we had to open this letter to check for money or credit cards, there were none, so you can have the f....r back!!!

  "Next time, make sure there is some money!! Love, Royal Mail."

  Sad state of affairs I'm afraid. Stealing mail and checking for credit cards, cheques, cash etc. is big game in this country - I've been a victim of it myself and would like to get my hands on the little bastards that stole it!!!!!

  Nice of them to leave a note though!!

  Sigh! I knew I'd eventually be accused of "Pommie-bashing".

  I was referring to bad postal service, not theft. I grew up on British comedies, and pisstakes of the Royal Mail were almost as common as those about over-zealous traffic wardens (see my last thread on this topic: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/72895/1.ashx)

  One of my favourite Goodies episodes is the one about the Pirate Post Office, operating outside the 5 Mile Limit. This news article reminded me, for some reason, of that.

  That's right Stephanus, thieving only happens in Great Britain..............

  Maybe not theft, but how often does the thief leave a note? That, my dear RustGirl, is the funny bit!
