Recently a friend of mine brought me a magazine that a JW gave him on the street. It is entitled Keep on the Watch with sub titles: For What? and Why Is it Especially Urgent Now?
Has anyone else seen this WT type magazine. On the cover is a picture of an elderly man looking out at the reader, a newspaper in his hand, a Bible type book open on the sidetable along with a TV remote and a large globe on a stand beside his armchair
Inside the magazine is a picture of an hour glass with approximately 90% of the sand in the bottom. The only date of publication written in very fine print is 2004. There also some photo credits given, one on page four is attributed to the UN/DPI
The magazine seems to be directed to the general public in the beginning but the latter half of it swings towards Jehovah?s Witnesses. The main buzzword is sense of urgency appearing five or six times . How can we maintain our sense of urgency and keep on the watch. ......But this in no time to slow down or lose your sense of urgency regarding the time we live!........ In view of the short time remaining, it has never been more urgent to preach this lifesaving message.
On page 14 There is one gray box entitled When Will the End Come in which three Bible verses are quoted, the second one is Keep on the watch......because you know neither the day nor the hour.
A second gray box asks: Would It Make a Difference if You Knew ( that is, if you knew the time of the end.) The second paragraph in this box states: Our not knowing the exact time gives us opportunity to show that we serve God out of pure motives. Those who know Jehovah realize that a last- minute display of zeal will not impress God, who sees what the heart is. (Jeremiah 17:10; Hebrews 4:13)
This last statement really grates me. After giving one date after another for about 125 years, finally they find the text, no one knows the day or the hour. The announcement of the date 1975 was just Jehovah?s way of testing your motives.
