Is it me or does the Watchtower always give the counsel to tell the elders or someone in the congregation when one is being physically abused by her husband. Would not the first thing to do is go to the police? Or are we in fear of bringing "reproach on Jehovah's name?" Yeah right. I read an Awake article concerning counsel on wives with abusive husbands and it even counsled that going to the authorities may only provoke the abuser even more! What am I in.. the twilight zone??!!! The Society is trying to tell me that if my hubby is bashing my brains in every night that a couple of middle aged men in a suit and tie with a Bible in his hand is gonna be able to keep him from using me as a human punching bag rather then a couple of cops who can throw him in a hole for the night? Scary thought.

It is a scary thought.
Add to that the counsel:
- to remain in submission to hopefully win him over
- to be long suffering and patient to try to win him over
- to be forgiving to try to win him over
and as you said
- don't go to the authorities
But the real reason for that is not that the abuse might get worse but rather to
- keep the reputation of the congregation clean
Gawd forbid anyone knew that the JWs had the same problems as the rest of the world

Pray more, go to more meetings, go out in FS more, read your bible more... and whatever you are doing to piss him off, STOP IT or we will have you DFed for not being a submisive wife!

Actually in my life the edlers seem to have the opposite mantra. That it is a domestic matter that can't be handled by the elders, and they can only give spiritual suport. Basically they toss the family book at you and bolt. In the old days they would ignore abuse totally and tended to say it is your test or recomend you leave and condem your life to celibacy until the abuser commits adultry. But I dont know how it is in other areas. They all had the there is nothing anyone can do about it attitude. Anyone experience elders like these?
