Has anyone noticed at the district conventions, how those tall brown "Contributions for World Wide Work" seem to make the rounds before and after the sessions.

I had a good view from where I sat - I know the sisters take turns in shifts, but is it necessary for them to carry the box outside? This happened just a few minutes before the convention session ended.

They are always conveniently placed near the "new release" stand.

Having worked in Accounting and manned or is that womaned a box, I can relate to this. The sisters always go down about 20 minutes before the session ends in the morning so they can pick up their box, sign for it, and be walked to the location by a brother. Usually, one brother takes several sisters because of the lack of brothers, Then when the session lets out the boxes are already there for the publishers to use to donate to. A brother is supposed to be watching 3 or 4 sisters and their boxes for security purposes. They try to position the boxes within eyesight of each other.

Then when about 10 minutes before the session a brother is supposed to show up to take you back to the Accounting area, where you sign in your box to a brother who takes it back to be emptied, money counted, ready for after the session.

It is no accident that their are several boxes placed closely to where the releases are handed out. Brothers go into the seating area (disabled) to hand out the releases now. No boxes are in evidence then.

At many assembly halls the contribution boxes are permanently located close to the entry/exit areas.

People tend to talk to you when you are seated at a contribution box but you are told not to and to not let them block the box.

The process you describe regarding the boxes was evident to me as long as 7 years ago. I didn't mind because I missed quite a bit of the program that way.
