    In the

Every Sunday, not far from me, literally hundreds of cars converge onto a local farm and set up picnic tables from which people sell all the used stuff they don?t want anymore ? bric-a-brac, clothes, toys, tools; you name it, they sell it. I?ve found quite a few bargains in the last few weeks, like a nearly-new leather motorcycle jacket for £10!

Anyway, imagine my surprise when, as I was perusing the various tables, I suddenly spied a JW book. Not just one, but loads of current publications ? brochures, Watchtowers etc! They were all laid out neatly with a sign saying ?please take one? next to the magazines.

Two older ladies sat behind the table drinking tea and chatting. I watched for a while and nobody took any magazines or showed any interest (can?t even give ?em away!).

The ?car boot? is open from about 8am until 1pm so I guess they could count 5 hours time just by sitting there drinking tea and chatting!

Next week, if they come again, I might take one of the latest mags and ?encourage? them a bit!

dmouse is not exagerrating - I have seen the same in the US -- in the US of course they are called Garage Sales or Lawn Sales - -in the UK Car Boot (Trunk) Sales - it comes from the fact that people used to literally set up a stall on afarmers field and sell out of the trunk (boot) of their cars. In the US and the UK these events seem to be popular with the JW community -- and I know many sisters who do exactly what dmouse has said- The other trick BTW -if they are selling clothing such as Suit Coats Sports jackets is to leave a tract in one of the pockets.

So all true - not exaggerated I have "Witnessed it" - pardo nthe joke

I've seen them in the mall here in the U.S. The ironic thing is there are more young people going to the mall, and you KNOW they can't get any young witnesses to man the literature stand there - it's these clearly uptight old fogies who clearly are not happy in life.

Ha! This is funny. What is also a common trick (at least in the US) is to hit up other people's yard sales while going door-to-door in that neighborhood. Usually two or three JW couples would converge on the sale and peruse, while eventually, one JW would 'strike up a conversation' with the person conducting the yardsale. This would justify the 30 minutes (times 6 publishers = 3 hours) of time that was being counted for Jehovah's service. What a scam.
