1........................that your loved one suffering from an addiction that puts them at serious risk joins the WTS and is able to give up the substance abuse???????? The price??????????? Cutting all ties with you because you have DA'ed or have been DF'ed, but at least they are safe to some extent??????????????

2.........................or no matter what, that they never become a dub..............despite the risk from the substance abuse???????????????

It's something I have thought alot about, having met many converted dubs who had a serious addiction but managed to give it up once they started to study and dedicated themselves. I do believe the religion becomes their addiction,fix...............which do you think is worst?

I have been part of several support groups for addicts AA, Al-Anon, ACOA; there are more people who have kicked their habits without the WTS than with the WTS. As a JW, I have seen the WTS structure hide and deny people's addictions rather than confront it and help them leave it.

Substance addiction may be very harmful but addiction to the Borg can be just as harmful. Also are those who go into the borg getting over substance abuseever treated equally.

Those that I new of were always treated like a charity case, no mater how well they got. And the gossip mills were always spreading rumours about them.

There are plenty of other organisations out ther to help those with substance abuse that don't have the side effects of the Borg.

    Let me see.

The addiction has taken them over, and now owns my loved one.

    or

The JW has taken them over, and now owns my loved one.

Either way, they have no life until they choose to accept the fact that they have a problem, and start working on it.

    It's a lose-lose situation as far as I can see, Bliss. :(

Here's what I do with my family/friends who are in either position. Keep on loving them, do not let their destructive behaviours rule my life, advocate for/with them whenever possible and hope they eventually reach a place where they realize they need help.

So it's a choice between suffering with drug addiction or become a JW? It's true that people who join the JW cult, they are able to get rid of their "problem", but remember so are people who join other cults too! It's no different - whichever group they join, whether it's a cult or even an organization like Alcoholics Anonymous or some other rehabilitation program; people who suffer an addiction can be helped and overcome. One of the worst "addictions" one can suffer is to become part of Satan's organization called the Watchtower. Two of my daughters are estranged to me (it's almost as if they have died already) since I was df'd - now this could take a life time of shunning. Now if my daughters had an addiction, I would be there to help them in any way I can and of course if I had to choose, then I prefer that they suffer an addiction rather than that they become a JW at any cost!

Blondie.............I agree. I used the WTS as an example because we are familiar with it's brain washing techniques. I also think the dilemma I presented is real to some here.

I guess I see it as 6 of one and half a dozen of the other..................heads they win, tails I lose................etc.

    Richie................agree with you 100%

Talesin..................you're right. No point swapping one addiction for another.

the gossip mills were always spreading rumours about them.

Lehaa...............the dubs always make people they bring in feel indebted to them. They love to discuss the new study with others too, and why let the truth get in the way of a good story hey????????? Talk about stripping someone of their dignity.

Appreciate your responses. Keep them coming.

    Cheers. Bliss

I agree on that. There is no real help unless you consider the pressure "Leave it or get out!" a help.
I tend to believe many JW continue their addiction under cover - especially alcoholic addiction.

better let them die from their actions if that's what it takes than allow them to become part of an organisation that pushes others into that same position.
