Al Jazeera, the Middle Eastern Arab propaganda television station has been granted a licence to broadcast in Canada on Cable and Satellite television by the CRTC (The Federal watchdog for communication in Canada). Both issues are outrageous!
The CRTC will not let Canadians watch the US FOX Television News Network, which is the most viewed American news provider. But instead, they invite a lying, anti-Western, and anti-Jewish Arab television network that promotes hatred into the homes of Canadians. It pains me to see that the Liberal government of Canada, which consistently votes to condemn Israel at the United Nations on the behalf of Arab Thugocracies, is now an enabler of further Arab propaganda and hatred in Canada.
Every right-thinking Canadian must be as scandalized by this travesty as I am. I am as much in favor of the least amount of government intervention in the content of the media as anyone. But I am not in favor of so many rights, that broadcasters should be allowed to broadcast lies, hatred and incitement.
While it is true, that just this past week, Al Jazeera promised to clean up their act and broadcast more responsibly, it's hard to believe them. Their's is a broadcast culture based upon lies, distortion, innuendo, violence, anti-Americanism, a hatred for Israel and an active promotion of anti-Semitism. Why would Al Jazeera change their ways because of a relatively small Canadian market, in comparison to their meat and potatoes markets in the Middle East and Europe where promoting hatred for Jews and Americans is their staple? They won't!
What happens when Al Jazeera continues to incite its viewers to hate Jews and Americans, but this time on Canadian TV? What will the CRTC do or say then? How will the CRTC punish a broadcaster whose operation is based in Qatar? Will the CRTC dare to risk the wrath of an angry Arab mob in Canada? Will the Liberal government of Canada dare to anger so many Arab voters?
When Arabs get pissed off, buildings seem to get bombed, and people tend to die. Will the CRTC do the right thing and run the risk of a violent response by pulling the plug on Al Jazeera when the complaints come thundering in?
FOX is banned in Canada, CHOI FM (A Quebec radio station) is being yanked off the air partly for commenting on the boob size of a Quebec City weather-girl, and Al Jazeera is given the green light to spew their hatred.
As a side note: The substantial Toronto Italian community was promised an Italian satellite station by the liberals, if the Italians voted for the Liberals in the just run federal election. The Italians held up their part of the bargain. In the same CRTC announcement, the Arabs got Al Jazeera. The Italians got screwed. And the electors who voted Liberal got what they deserved. I and many others voted Conservative. We deserve better.

Richie As you, i am truly sorry that the boob commenting station was removed. Since boobs are such an encouraging feature, they need more coverage, um well, maybe less. While we don't get propaganda as strong as what the americans do, we still get it. Al jezeera will help balance things a bit. You know, give 'the other side'. I'm not saying they don't propagandise. Since media is so coherent, i think that anything that breaks up the flow, allowing freer reportage, is a good thing. Btw, what about the antiarab bias since 911? S

The Canadian media including the CTV are usually left to center liberal, but certainly not conservative. They are largely anti-American and with Al Jazeera on the horizon you can imagine how one sided the news will remain. Canada needs Fox News to balance things out Satanus.

Fox and Gophers
July 19, 20040 (The Wall Street Journal)When it comes to Canadian identity, Fox News Channel is apparently a threat. Al-Jazeera, on the other hand, is just another point of view enriching Canadian culture. That's the message sent last week when the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) granted the Qatar-based, anti-American al-Jazeera a Canadian license. Fox has wanted into Canada since 1999 but has so far been shut out -- except in Ottawa, at the Canadian Parliament, which requested and got a Fox feed last August.
The official justification for this double news standard is that al-Jazeera doesn't compete with any local Canadian-owned company. More than 100,000 Italian-Canadians petitioned in favor of a license for Italy's RAI International, for example, but on the same day that al-Jazeera got the green light RAI was sent packing because it would compete with Canadian-owned Telelatino.
Then there are the sensitivities of Canada's culture police. A large chunk of Canada's political establishment truly believes that, left unfettered, the Canadian market would be overrun by American culture, as if it isn't already. A few years back the CRTC told Fox it could enter Canada, as long as its 24-hour programming had 35% Canadian content. That may have implied a little too much televised gopher hunting on Baffin Island, so Fox stayed home.
What doesn't seem to matter to Ottawa's information gate-keepers are the wishes of Canadian viewers. Canada's cable industry estimates that up to one million Canadian households grab U.S. signals illegally, and the Fox network has received thousands of calls and e-mails requesting the news channel. Yet Canadians are stuck with CNN, which was grandfathered under Canadian law.
The darkest interpretation of all of this is that Canada's liberal political elites find al-Jazeera's view of the world more compatible than Fox's. The Arab network is always putting the worst face on U.S. policies, while Fox doesn't mind suggesting that it is rooting for America to win when it goes to war. We prefer to think better of our neighbors to the north, but it would be nice if they gave Americans the same benefit of the doubt that they give to our enemies.

Maybe, Bin Laden is hiding in Canada and needs Al Jazeera news to stay informed.
