any of you tried xandros?
i downloaded, installed Xandros OCE 2.0 this week, actually, in one night. dowload, burn cd and install was less than 4 hours.
of all the linux distro's i've run in the last 10 years, this one was THE easiest and i was up and running without any driver problems or hardware issues.
wierd.
linux that works.
you know more windows users would cross to the dark side with distro's like this.
maybe i can get gwen to let me make her a convert........

I haven't tried that one, but Knoppix is the easiest I've ever seen. It runs directly off of a CD (you can install to HD if you want though).
My distro of choice is definitely Debian.

Awesome! As is Knoppix!
But I usually use straight Debian... it's very powerful as far as how you can configure it (minimal packages...just have it do what you need). Plus it has the best package management of all the major distros, IMO.

If you install Knoppix to the HDD you effectively get Debian (from the unstable tree)
I think from a learning point of view you are better with Redhat or SuSe though because of their market share and because they have certification scheme.

Wait! First you need this:
Learn the Greek Alphabet!
Features:- Includes both review and exercises
- Fun! It really is...
- You can play over and over
- You get immediate feedback
- Downloadable, no need to wait for it in the mail
- Needs no additional Greek fonts or software
- Works on both PC and Mac
- A PC or Mac computer
- A Javascipt enabled browser (IE, Netscape, Opera)
- That's it...
You guys are awesome...hahahaha!
But seriously, now that you have it, what do you do with it?
Learn the Greek Alphabet is an interactive software title that will help anyone to learn the Greek alphabet in no time. And the good thing is, that you can do this while having fun playing with the exercises, without the need to sit around and try to memorize something from a book.
The software consists of two sections: the Review Section and the Exercise Section. In the Review Section you get introduced to the alphabet by stepping through each letter and explaining where it came from. In the Exercise Section you can play with the many exercises that will help in remembering all of the letters. The exercises are essentially games -- there are multiple choice, as well as true and false games, you are free to choose the one that works best for you.
The Greek alphabet is the mother of all European alphabets, learning it will help you understand more of why these letters are used in both science and humanities. It will also help you to get a bit closer to your own history.

Meh... I'd rather use the one that provides a more solid platform for servers. IMO that's Debian.
But I wouldn't suggest someone learn linux using Debian (I'm talking about the standard straight Debian -- not Knoppix, Ximian, etc). Debian is a bit more difficult to use for newbies.
