Was I Not Having Fun?

  Years ago, when I was just a little lad, my Dad would often quote the above passage from the Scriptures to me.

  "Was I not having fun?"

  Usually, I would be about to be reprimanded for having been a little too cheeky. I would fall back on an "I was only kidding!", type of excuse to try to get out of any punishment that was due to me. Dad sussed my avoidance tactics very quickly, and when I claimed to have been only kidding he would roll out the above passage from the Bible.

  I think that maybe some dire things befell the Biblical kidder. Also, I have a yearning to introduce the phrase to an old pal of mine who also causes mayhem and then falls back on the old "only kidding" routine.

  Anyone know what scripture this is?

  Anyone been a kidder?

  Anyone been kidded and is getting hopping mad at the kidder?

  The biblical kidder would wind up with more than a sore ass: saying baldy to a prophet could get you mauled for instance....LOL

  This reminds me of a talk given by a visiting elder once, I must have been about 12 or 13, in which he very emphatically and insistently condemned fun. I think he repeated "fun is foolishness" (or something equally as apalling to a 12 yr old) several times. I remember leaving the hall thinking, "well, that's no fun."
