I have just begun recently to meet with a JW to study the bible and various material that I have been given. I have no prior religous background and have only started to read the bible about 3 mo ago. After reading a lot of the posts I have noticed a lot of people talking about how when they started to question JW beliefs, they were shunned. People have also told me that I need to get the answers to my questions now, since I will not be able to if I choose to join the religion. I am curious to know if you have any questions you think I should pose during my studying. thanks
questions i should ask

Hi Tattoo: Get a copy of Ray Franz two books, Crisis of Conscience and Insearch of Christian Freedom. He was a member of the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses until 1980. He resigned, and was later disfellowshipped. He then wrote his two books which are kind, but give you all the ammunition you need.
Ask to meet with the Elders, at least four or five, including your JW friend and several of the JWs. Bring out the books and ask then to help you undertand what ray is talking about.
Now, the issue here is not so much 'what' they will say, but how they react. Study this reaction closely, and then you will see that they have no interest in truth. They will shun the book and find all kinds of reasons to redirect you back into the Society publications.
IF, by some chance, they respond well and start going through the books with you, pouring over the chapters and issues, then indeed, you have struck rare gold, and you are lucky, forntunate, and blassed by the stars. - Amazing

My advice to you is to get on our Nikes and start running as fast as you can over the horizon and don't stop to look back, they may be gaining on you.
When you get to a nice, safe spot, read those two books by Ray Franz that have been recommended to you.
Where it is a duty to worship the Sun you can be sure that a study of the laws of heat is a crime.

Tattoogirl,
I think you should do some research yourself and then ask a question so that you can compare what they say versus what you know. You can find good information at freeminds.org or Kent's cite which is listed at the end of each of his thread. Also, you can pick out topics of interest here. One subject I would suggest is the Witness prediction of the end of the world in 1975. The person studying with you will probably tell you they never said that. You can find direct quotes from their literature at the two cites mentioned above. It has been discussed here as well but I can't remember the topic heading. Also, there is a thread that gives quotes about their prediction of the end of the world in 1925. Again, I can't think of the title.
Hope that helps.

I would suggest you getting informed as much as possible before asking any questions or studying with the Witnesses. The questions will come with knowledge and information.

Witnesses can be very tactfull and convincing, they are trained to be.
If you are not prepared to deal with them, you just may end up one if you are not informed. One question you may ask is why does the organization not recognize the original teachings of the founder Charles Taze Russell?
Why don't they study the books written by Russell that were supposed to be a guide to understanding the Bible?
Why did the second president Joseph Rutherford condemn the pyramid teachings of Russell as being from Satan? WT 11/15/1928 page 341 and 344
Can you trust an organization that taught from Satans Bible for over 50 years? WT 11/15/1928 page 344
I have hundreds of questions, but I would suggest getting informed before continueing your study.

hi Tatoo,
i'm worried for you ! 10 years ago i started studying and i too had no prior bible knowledge. i think it will be difficult for you to be objective given your lack of knowledge. i read an apostate book while i first studied it was called "what to say to Jehovah's witnesses" they answered my questions. it sounded good to me. they answered from their bibles. i then studied and never looked at apostate literature again until recently. what a difference some knowledge of the organization as well as having a background in knowing the bible. my advice is to read up about the organization from as many sources as you can . crisis of conscience is excellent. question question question . 2corinthians 13:5 revelation 2:2
also if it seems weird and you start seeing Jehovah's witnesses as being unbalanced and superstitious dont dismiss it. they are weird and you will be too after awhile.... jurs
