Channel 4 have excelled themselves this time with their new 4 part series "Pagans", showing at 9pm every Monday night.

If you've missed the first two of the four parts, don't worry, there is information on the shows you missed here http://www.channel4.com/culture/microsites/P/pagans/html/programmes/index.html < this site is actually quite good and gives some basic information even about modern-day paganism.

I've loved the series because it seems to be givng archaeological facts rather than silly speculations about what our pagan ancestors were really like.

    Check it out!

Sorry Gretchen. Maybe there's a way for the people who taped it to send you the tapes or something?

It was interesting how they gave a possible explanation for the "big bad wolf" in fairy tales, saying that Pagans would dress as wolves in battle but the christians called it animalistic. The wolf was then turned into a hated / feared animal.

Also they say the possible origins of a sword in the stone myth was that when they first began getting copper ore from malachite the average person didn't know how do smelt it, so the villagers would mine it and then take it to a wise man who would smelt it and make their swords. Hence sword from a stone was viewed as a magical thing.

There were lots of other things, it was interesting how things we have today are closely related to the ancient customs.
