The special room in high school for JWs

I don't know how many of you went through this, but did you have to go to a special classroom with other JWs in it for the national anthem?

I remember encountering this, and I thought it was weird. I remember being told NOT TO BE IN THE CLASSROOM, but this was a classroom! I think the school system came up with this particular way of handling JWs standing out in the hallways. High Schools don't like having kids in the hallway, and this was a way to solve the problem. That's just a guess.

Yea, we had the "special room". Kinda like riding the short bus, huh?

Ours was for all pep rallies, class president assemblies and anything that wasn't classroom teaching related. Out of four years of high school, I only went to the special room once. I always went to the pep rallies and the assemblies. Anything out of class was great to me. Hanging out in a room by the principle's office(which they locked so the kids wouldn't roam the halls. That had to be against the law.) with the other "Jesus freaks" was not my idea of fun. I only did it once when I got caught in the hall on the way to an assembly by a FE(future elder) JW kid. I was too intimidated by this elder's kid to ignore him and go on my way. The principle came in to take a head count and saw me and said, "undercover, what are you doing in here with these religious kids. I know you aren't a JW." The ole double life took a hit that day.

Started 1st grade in 1962 US president John Kennedy was killed in 2nd grade.

A wave of flag saluting/patriotism swept the country.I got abused and tormented constantly.

    I hate the WT$.

None of the schools I went to had that room. I had to go to whatever teacher didn't feel like going to the (x-mas,pep rally, against JW rule entertainment) they were having that day. One time I think it was a x-mas program and my teacher couldn't find anyone else that was staying in their room that day so she had to miss the program to "JW-sit" me. Oh did I tell you I WAS NOT the only JW at my school. I wonder where they were. HMMMM.....Why was I such an ignorant obedient dub?

I suffered like undaunted Danny. Tortured and picked at.

It would have been super great to have a classroom to go to while they did the national anthem.

I had to just sit in my seat while everyone stood. .. It was soooo horrible.

When I first started High School, it was the library for special events like assemblies and christmas plays but then for the last two years, we ended up in a boring study hall room for hours along with all the regular miscreants, you know the bad kids who were tardy or had in school suspension, or didn't hand in their homework. So basically, it was double punishment.

When my son graduated this year mom came to his ceremony along with me, hubby, and hubby's parents (hubby & his parents were never JW's). I felt sorry for her when the national anthem played - she was shocked to see not only me, but my daughter and my graduating son all stand and put our hands over our hearts.

Gee - I've been celebrating holidays for years now - even fly a flag outside my house. You'd think she would have guess that I also show respect during the anthem hu?

I just went to the library at school. Some wished they could go too and miss the "festivities."

When I was younger, no sweat, I got to go home early.
