How Many Lies Must We Tell . . . YOUR OPINION.

There is a song called, How Many Lies, which reminds of my life in the organization of JW's. A portion of the song is below, but I have a question.

    Once there were times,
Once there were reasons filled with rhymes,
    Everything shared, everything told
    You keep me so warm,
Protect me from all those mighty storms
    And dreams seem so old

    You strain on the truth,
And make believe all when you cry wolf,
And the lies you?re giving me

Oh, well the truth is hard,
So when they write the book,
    Fiction?s what you wanna be
Well, it?s your freedom of choice,
But you know that lies, are the cancer of democracy
    You?ve painted your face,
And now you?ve tainted your words
And now you?re ready and armed with love
Well if you?re head is steady,
    And your soul is ready,
    We?re going up above
    So whatever you wanna be,
Just come on along with me,
If there?s truth in our hearts,
    Maybe we can break free

We all know that the JW religion is full of lies and deceptions. The dwindling majority of JW members actually believe these lies. I am coming to see that more and more, JW's are capable of telling many non-religious related lies and it is striking to me.

My view is beginning to be: JW's lie more than most because they believe and live so many lies.

My question is this; since JW's willingly believe so many lies, do they find it easier to tell so many lies . . . ? Do they tend to lie more than non-JW's?

Do you have this experience to?

i think to truly be telling a lie, you have to realize that it isn't the truth. otherwise you've just been misled which is what i think the majority of JW's are.

I lie all the time. More than any other people I know, and I am darn good at it too. I amaze others at how quickly I can come up with a plausible lie and not change a facial expression. I attribute this ability to the fact I have had to lie to my parents my entire life to be able to do ANYTHING!!!! So do I as a JW lie more than others that were never JW's? MOST DEFINATELY!! Do I lie because I was taught lies? No. I lie because I don't want my parents to disown me. I have sucessfully faded so far, partially because I am a good liar.

I think you are really on to something here. My mom is one of the most scrupulous witnesses I have known and she constantly lies to me. She just referred to her not calling or writing for 1 year while she was in Ecuador. Everyone knows she was there for 2 and never called. Just things like that....she KNOWS she is lying and knows that I know it too.

I also admit that upon leaving the borg I was adept at lying. I was never able to admit to my true feelings or thoughts so it was very difficult to learn to live honestly and genuinely. I even had to learn to distinguish how I really felt about things - on my own.

They really do a good job of messing up a persons mental and emotional functioning. Imagine what they would be capable of it they MEANT to F---you up!

I can tell you that being married to a JW that he lies all the time. It could be the smallest thing that i catch him lying about and i know it is taught through the jws. I knew him before he was recruited and he did not have the habit of lying. I will even ask him where he learned to lie and he say's " i am not lying". He lies and then lies that he lies.

A lie is a lie, isn't it? Doesn't matter how much you believe it, you are still believing, and thus, perpetuating a lie.

Simply put, the entire religion is based on a lie, therefore, in order for even the most devout JW to defend it as "the Truth", they must lie: they must lie about their religion, themselves and others.

It could be the smallest thing that i catch him lying about

Bingo. That is my experience to, and I in times past found myself doing the same thing. I KNEW I was lying, I could see it in the faces of those I would speak to. They new I was lying . . . even about the smallest thing.

My mom is one of the most scrupulous witnesses I have known and she constantly lies to me. She just referred to her not calling or writing for 1 year while she was in Ecuador. Another good example. Most JW's that I have been close to, do the very same thing. It is an illness. My ex-wife is another perfect example of how effed up their thinking is.

I lie all the time. More than any other people I know, and I am darn good at it too. I amaze others at how quickly I can come up with a plausible lie and not change a facial expression.

    Thanks for your honesty.

I have never felt freer than when I was able to get through my day without lying about something, either to myself or somebody else.

I don't entirely agree. I know too many "worldly" people who lie just to be lying. I don't think that ex JWs have more of a talent for it than others.
