The current publication being studied is:
"Is There a Creator Who Cares About You"
The assignment for the week of July 2:
pages 160(para.2)-164
Hope this helps.
Hello, truman/lmr!
Long time, no see. Care to give us an update?
Thanks for your help, truman!
Hello teejay,
I have been around, but just didn't have anything to say for a few days. I guess I got a little case of shyness. I am assuming you meant an update on the book study.
The current Bk Study assignment is the final portion of 2 chapters which have been giving a short synopsis of the books of the Bible. This portion gives a discussion of the value of Jesus' resurrection and the book of Revelation,--all in 4 pages. the material is basic, abbreviated, and just something to kill an hour.
After going through this book with my new found perspective on the "truth", I realize that it, like 99% of the material which is studied at the meetings is very superficial and just the same thing over and over. Of course, even the society acknowledges this, and counters with remarks such as, "We need Jehovah's reminders." I think this was even mentioned at the DC I attended. I always knew the meetings were boring and mind-numbing, but now I see that the very stupifying effects which make them so hard to sit through, are a vital part of the overall mind control. And that the much vaunted Bible knowledge of most JWs may be on a wide range of Bible topics, but is really only a few inches deep on any one of them. Once you get past the standard JW proof texts, and arguments, there is no depth to any of it. I used to think I knew the Bible as well as most, but now I see that I really have very little real knowledge other than the above, and this after 27 years. Sad.
Hi Tru-woman!
Good to hear from you again. I completely agree with you that I thought I had some knowledge, but it's pretty superficial. After reading some 'worldly' literature, it's clear that there is a vast difference.
In fact, it seems that the writers of the WTBS literature read a book on some subject (such as last year's 'Easter Island, Earth Island') and then write a series of articles on that subjects. They merely are writing a synopsis of the book and then putting their own spin on it.
Now it's plain to see that one should just read the book and skip the WT spin.
Another thing is to just point out headlines about how ba-a-a-ad everything is and then put the Bible spin on it.
And I used to think they were so smart . . . .
