I saw this on the news last night (CNN breaking news for just a few minutes) and then nothing more on any channel until this morning. This article is off on the time a bit. I heard it on the news about 10:15 last night (Pacific Time) and they have it happening later than that.

I had to wonder why the news blackout.

It is so terrible..................no proof of terrorism yet.

Yeah, all the cable news channels had reruns of news shows earlier in the day. I had to watch CNN International to get the breaking news last night *shrug*. It is very suspicious that both planes were from the same airport and crashed within minutes of each other. Two positive signs of terrorism is the "emergency alarm" that the pilot pressed just seconds before the second plane disappeared from the scope (the one that broke up in the air), which some news agencies are reporting as a "hijack alarm" but is probably only an "emergency alarm". The other indication is a report that one of the air traffic controllers called emergency services, claiming that according to the cockpit the flight crew was being attacked. This report however has not been confirmed. Also, there were about 15 people in one flight that did not show up for boarding, but the airport says that all their luggage was cleared from the plane. And the latest report says that no suspicious Chechyans or Arabs were aboard the flights, just one Israeli.

One of the things mentioned in the link is that the authorities are looking to see if there was a problem with the fuel they received from the airport. And when I was watching this unfolding over a few hours at work last night (It was widely covered on BBC News 24) I was concerned byt the mention that due to the Russian safety record that one plane crash was no suprise, its just that two happened at the same time. It could just all be bad luck.

    no proof of terrorism yet.

I saw on the news this morning that a "hijack" alarm was triggered on one of the flights.

I'd be willing to put good money on this being the work of terrorists... I'm just not sure if it was the Chechens or Al-Qaeda. Al-Qaeda likes to do synchronized bombings like this, but the Chechens are the ones angriest at Russia.

Reports say two Chechen women boarded the plane with bombs and traces of plastic explosives were used to bring the planes down...

If we're not careful, that could very well happen here.
