So if the NWT is the only accurate translation...

Then why does the Watch Tower use quotes from other versions in their printed material? If the NWT is so flimsy that they have to resort to other versions in order to make a point, then how can they contend that is the one and only accurate translation?

Or is using other translations simply a smokescreen to lure unsuspecting people into the organization? Perhaps they are trying to convince potential recruits that they are tolerant of other religions since they use quotes from other bibles.

Or is it for something else entirely? Anyone care to speculate?

    Oxnie:

They selectively use quotations from other versions and translations, as it suits their purpose to "validate" the NWT. There is one poster on this board (no, not me) who is currently involved in a source document research project regarding the "J" documents (frequently referenced in the RBi8 and KIT), who anticipates demonstrating that the WTS has, yet again, misrepresented the facts. I anxiously await the results of his research.

They can't, and yet they must. How else can an organization maintain control of a large group of people, unless they convince them that their information is the only accurate information? The trillions of investors' dollars that were lost in the US over the last 5 years are evidence of the same game, under the guise of economics, instead of religion.

    As above.

On a personal note: again, welcome back to JWD! fwiw, I'm very happy to see you re-engaging in the discussions.

    Sincerely,

    Craig

I never undrstood the myth that JWs claim or need the NWT to be the "most accurate bible", or that "they need it to validate their doctrines". Most of the doctrines people complain about are not in any bible not even the nwt. Also until 1960 JWs used the ASV. The watchtower is a "bible and tract" society. All their claims about the NWT are simple advertising. They make bibles to sell. Maybe nobody ever thought of it like that, but it is the truth. When the NWT came out it was a bit revolutionary a bible for mass ditribution that was writen in an antithesis of KJV style in simple english with the name Jehovah in it(I am not saying it is the first). Now days it is trite since many bibles fit that discription.

I'm not sure I'm following you here. What are some examples of doctrines you have heard people complain about?
