Oxnie:
Then why does the Watch Tower use quotes from other versions in their printed material?
They selectively use quotations from other versions and translations, as it suits their purpose to "validate" the NWT. There is one poster on this board (no, not me) who is currently involved in a source document research project regarding the "J" documents (frequently referenced in the RBi8 and KIT), who anticipates demonstrating that the WTS has, yet again, misrepresented the facts. I anxiously await the results of his research.
If the NWT is so flimsy that they have to resort to other versions in order to make a point, then how can they contend that is the one and only accurate translation?
They can't, and yet they must. How else can an organization maintain control of a large group of people, unless they convince them that their information is the only accurate information? The trillions of investors' dollars that were lost in the US over the last 5 years are evidence of the same game, under the guise of economics, instead of religion.
Or is using other translations simply a smokescreen to lure unsuspecting people into the organization? Perhaps they are trying to convince potential recruits that they are tolerant of other religions since they use quotes from other bibles.
As above.
On a personal note: again, welcome back to JWD! fwiw, I'm very happy to see you re-engaging in the discussions.
Sincerely,
Craig
