It looks like the developer market is getting much better in this area and I'm getting emails from recruiters offering me $$$ if I can direct them to anyone who can do VB, COM, SQL and Web development... including .Net and SQL DBA work. (This is referring to several different positions)

Also note that most of these positions are Contract and not Perm... some do have the possibility of going Perm.

I would qualify for most of these positions but I am hoping to get a perm position at my current contract.

I was wondering if you had heard anything about going permanent yet. You had said your boss may have had good news for you awhile back.

This is a financial corporation, so things happen in extreme slow motion... It looks like everything is still moving in the direction of their hiring me. Yesterday another developer congratulated me on getting the perm job; apparently he can hear my supervisor talking on the phone because he sits just across from him. I told him that I am excited and hope that I *do* get the perm position, but so far I have not "signed on the dotted line".

Another good sign is that the other day my supervisor interviewed another contract worker. He had mentioned that if the budgets come through the way he is hoping he will be able to hire me and bring on another contractor... so that interview is a definite sign that the budgets all worked out and out group will be expanding while many other groups are being cut back. By what I am hearing we have one of the most efficient groups among all of the developers.
