Recognizing God's choosen by their works/deeds? Good to see you all again

Greetings Forum, long time no write. Good to be back.

Recently, I've been thinking about a scripture that was tossed around a good bit in the JW congregations. It was something to the effect that you would be able to recognize God's choosen people by their good works and deeds. Since I have been away from them for awhile now (slow fade, only attend Memorial) I have discovered how hypocritical and unloving this choosen "organization" is. Oh, they live in their own "society" all right, one of complete mind numbing obedience, enslavement, stupidity, materialism, & to endless meetings and useless field service.

Let me clarify why I say this. Since I have been out (and even when I was in) I saw more love and concern from "worldly" people than from any in the congregations that we knew. When my father was sick and dying, a JW elder actually recommended that my elderly grandmother cook our meals, or eat out, instead of offering assistance. Funny, they are damn quick at offering up meals and kissing ass when the Circuit Overseer is around!!!! When my father died, no one came around. No one brought food or asked how we were doing. Many of our worldy neighbors came up and gave their condolences, as well as brought baked goods. My family was astounded that the wicked would actually help us!! In times of crisis, JW's expect you to depend on yourself, while they pound the pavement to find their next recruits. Screw helping you, or just being there for you to talk to. Also, I look around this country, and I see all of these "wicked worldy" churches with Sunday Schools and weekend activities, community centers, thrift stores for the poor, food drives, and much more, and I am left asking myself, "What deeds do JW's do for others? What do they contribute to society, or even their fellow man? Are they following the example Jesus gave of the good Sumaritan?" The answer is no, in my opinion. So much of the money that churches receive every week stays in their congregations to help their members and the community. Is that what happens to your money that you give the JW's?? No way. 98% of it goes right to Brooklyn, and for WHAT??? What do they do for us? They say it goes towards free publishing........let me tell you all something, if they wanted to, they could completely close down the printing presses in NY, with the exception of printing large Bibles. All they'd have to do is give each congregation a computer and a (very) good laser printer and a XEROX machine and the congregations could print off their own WT's and Awake!s each month off of the Society's web page for the members to view. No need for publishing it up there at all! Think of what could be done at home with all of that $$$$ that would be saved!!!

Also, my in-laws that are Lutherans are so much happier than JW families. They go to church picnics, their kids go to Sunday School where they learn basic knowledge at a rate children can understand, not forced to endure 2 hour meetings while sitting completely still and being good all the time. Why can't JW's do the same things? I find it rediculous and as an adult & now see why I was unhappy as a child and couldn't wait to get out of the Kingdom Hall and to get home to play.

So, do you see JW's as God's choosen people by their works and deeds? By the showing of their love? Are they following Jesus' example of the good Sumaritan and helping others? They can't even help ones in their own congretions, much less those outside of the organization. Which is what Jesus' story was all about...... helping even those NOT in the truth whom you may not really like.

I am saddened by what I have had to learn the hard way growing in the JW's. No one wants to believe the religion they always knews, was just full of $hit and run for profit, while they say "to hell" with those in need in their congregations. I don't think JW's were always this way, I think they have mutated into this. When I was very young, there was love in cogregations. There were picnics and some activities. By the end of the 1980's this was gone forever. Banned by Brooklyn because it didn't want members to engage in extra-cirricular non-JW related activities that might actually be fun, or allow people to talk. Your time is better spent studying or in the field ministry they said.

    Thanks for your time,

    Wing Commander :)

Amen, brother WingCommander. What you said was so true. It was somewhat different back in the old days as far as being like a family. Everyone did seem to care about others but now it is all about the WT Society and what we can do to prosper it. I left back in the early 70s and from what I hear on this board it has gotten progressively worse.

I know a brother who simply gave up after seeing the grandchildren in his extended family all drift away or get df'd

in recent years. When I was still an elder, he asked "What's so wrong with the churches having special programs for

kids?". It's a good question. I don't expect any caring answer coming from the elderly theocrats in this cult, anytime soon.

Isn't it funny how scripture gets applied. Jesus responded to His disciples about how to recognize His return. He warned them against "false prophets" and said "yee shall know them by their fruits". So one had to look to see what the "fruits" are and they are expressions of the beatitudes and essentially spiritual qualities that are reflected in the followers of that person or persons that represent His return. So witlesses say their "fruitage" is proof of their divine mandate or status. Only thing, the fruit is rotten and Jesus made it clear that "bad fruit does not grow on a healthy tree".

So A) it seems Jesus endorses the "return" in the form of "one who would lead you to all truth" and B) one that would "glorify Him" and one that would C) be known by His fruits.

Where does the FDS and its tomfoolery fit?

I love that example of the good Sumaritan. He was the one considered of the wrong or misled faith and he was the one helping, while God's (Judean) people walked by the poor guy.

Most JWs are so busy doing 5 meetings a week, field service and study. There is no time to devote to anything else other than what the WT society says you can do. I also find the attitiude of most JWs to be of rude, angry frustration.

A recent JW acquaintence of mine was relating to me a field service experience this morning. She came to the door of a handicapped woman of only one leg, in a wheelchair and in need of emergency medical care for her other leg. My friend called 911 and had her put in the hospital (being a good Sumaritan) and proceeded to ask some of the other sisters in her hall if they would be interested in helping her with cleaning the woman's house and providing some minimal care on her return home (maybe a dish or just a hello). Each sister respectfully declined to provide even minimal assistance. What wonderful christian love. I think they are only riding the wave of what they believe is the road to self preservation.
