Are JW friendships like co-worker friendships?

When you start working somewhere it is just a matter of time before you start going out for lunch with co-workers and doing other company related activates after work (company party, company soft-ball team, etc.) maybe even going out for drinks after work sometimes. When it come time for you to leave that job you no longer go out for lunch or hangout with your co-workers... maybe you will trade some emails, letters, or phone calls, but inevitably the communication comes to an end.

It seems like JW "friends" are basically the same as co-workers. So long as you are all meeting together, you will all hangout and go to gatherings related to the work and other things like that... but when you stop attending all of the JW functions the communication quickly comes to an end.

    Any thoughts on this?

That about sums it up. When I was a dub, the "Friends" I had were friends because they were the only people there. I didn't really like them, but it was better than being alon (almost). Once I left, I have my friends that I enjoy having. Although the number is fewer, the friendship is much deeper and meaningful.

Does this mean when you stop talking that they were never really your friend? Of course not. It just means that your life and interests pulled you in different directions.

JW friendships and co-worker friendships the same. Well, being a JW is much like working for a company as a sales associate, so the friendships are going to be similar to co-worker friendships, except worse.

Your co-workers won't rat on you for questioning a new company policy but you're JW friends will. Your co-workers won't rat on you for watching an R-rated movie, but your JW friends will. Your co-workers will cover for you when you're sick, your JW friends won't. You're boss doesn't pry into your everday life buy your elders will.

Do you think most former coworkers would cross the street to avoid you? Not look you in the eye at the supermarket? If you bumped into a bunch of former coworkers at the local coffee shop, would they not even acknowledge you? (and, if so, what the heck did you do at your old job?)

What I did notice is that when you changed halls, you tended not to get together with the friends from the old hall. Different meeting schedules, different times for conventions and assemblies, trying to get to know the new friends, etc.......seemed you hung out with those who were in your immediate surroundings.
