I'm thinking about getting one of those scooters that's like a skateboard with handlebars to use in conjunction with public transportation. What are some of the practical considerations? Gas or electric, what kind of mileage/range, maintenance, etc. If anyone knows anything about these I'd appreciate the input.

We have an electric scooter. You can go about 15 mph and ride all day on one charge. It is completely silent and fun to sneak up on people. The gas ones go further and faster but are noisy and have restriction. I think the electric ones are considered toys although I've been seen test-driving ours to make sure it's safe for the kiddies. Check local ordinances because the laws differ as to where you can travel on them. We love ours though.
