Annual General Meeting - Bethany Hughes got a mention

A friend I know said that his book study overseer was talking about some of the points made at the annual general meeting of Jehovahs Witnesses held early this month. He mentioned that the overseer said that Bethany Hughes, the young Canadian girl who was forced 38 blood transfusions, was named as one of the most important people in Canada in a survey. Strangely enough, the overseer never mentioned the father or his stand against the transfusions. Anyone have anything to add to this?

I think there is some kind of survey which took place where around 150,000 people were named and they are deciding by the number of votes who is number one.

I think she was definetly one of the most important people in the world to her dad and that's all that matters.

Exactly shogun. They are putting a spin on her death which makes me sick. She's gone. They just won't stop.

Didn't one of the Bethel lawyers tell her that she would be faetured on the cover of an Awake article? Can you imagine how Lawrence Hughes will feel if he ever saw that magazine being offered in street work? The ramifications could be enormous.

I mean, if they really do publish an article with Bethany in, it will be terrible - and all to give weight to their ridiculous blood policy.

I would like to see the details of this survey. Among Witnesses, yes, she would be well known. However, I doubt if very few non-Witnesses have even heard of this case. This is another example of the Society's JW-centric view of the world. They think they are the central players in world events.

I also have to say that I am sickened by the Society's behaviour in this case. They sent in hired goons to rip apart a family and kill a child to save their own face. They dumped huge amounts of legal expertise on the case so as to bury the father in legal bills and attempt to push the case aside with their huge resources. And, now, they try to get some internal PR out of it.

I don't think there is any case or event that shows their true colours as clearly as this one.

It would seem a strange coincidence that Lawrence Hughes demonstration should come close to the report made at the Annual General Meeting. Wonder if the Botchtower is preparing for a high profile demonstration and damage control?

If you guys are thinking of CBC's Greatest Canadian Survey: http://www.cbc.ca/greatest/greatcanadians/g.html#h , she doesn't appear on the list of nominees. However, it wouldn't surprise me if JWs orchestrated a campaign to write in her name and vote en mass, simply to get some free publicity.

Is that the one where shareholders meet?

That's right Badboy, every year in October, and where they "vote" in the corporation directors, which is required for legal reasons. Few get to attend this meeting.

As one sister once told me a few years ago, you have to be very high up in seniority to attend.

A dub here at work attended the annual meeting. She nad hubby are good friends of some of the bigwigs. I'll see if I can get any info from her when she's back at her desk next week.
