What a beautiful place to vacation! And this particular place allows guests to participate in planting some rare seeds as "Green Guardians."
Sounds great. Any thoughts on vacationing in the Rain Forest? (See pic of the "resort" at bottom of post.)
Planting Trees for Timeless Holiday Memories
Visitors to Cape Tribulation Resort can take home more than souvenirs and photographs, thanks to a new environmental program that gives them the opportunity to help regenerate the rainforest.
The Green Guardians program invites guests to pay a small fee and join the resort?s regeneration nursery team to plant native seedlings.
?Our philosophy is that the resort and every guest who stays with us can make a positive contribution to our environment by understanding and appreciating more about the diversity of life that surrounds us,? said Resort General Manager Geoff Trewin.
?Guests join our regeneration nursery team for a truly intimate rainforest encounter.
?They learn about the key stages of rainforest development first-hand, from seedlings to complex multilayered canopies.
The experience culminates with a seedling planting ceremony, initiating each guest as Green Guardians.?
The resort?s nursery gardeners go to extraordinary lengths to collect rare rainforest seeds.
?Some seeds are collected from cassowary droppings,? Mr Trewin said.
?These seeds won?t germinate unless they have been digested by this particular bird.?
Presumably, this is one holiday experience the resort?s guests are spared, although children from the local primary school are happy to assist in the seed collection process.
A proportion of the Green Guardian membership fee is donated to organisations including the Daintree Rainforest Foundation, which directs buy-back and regeneration of rainforest throughout the World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics of Queensland.
As well as knowing their holiday contributed to rainforest regeneration, Green Guardians also receive a photograph of their efforts; a certificate of authenticity and appreciation; regular updates on the program; and a handbook on the natural and cultural history of Cape Tribulation and Queensland?s Wet Tropics.
Cape Tribulation Resort is located within rainforest that dates back 120 million years.
The resort?s flagship Coconut Beach Rainforest Lodge recently reopened following a $6 million refurbishment.
Cape Tribulation Resort is the latest addition to Voyages Hotels and Resorts, a stable of accommodation assets set in World Heritage wilderness regions.
The resort has Advanced Ecotourism Certification under the NEAP for its hillside units and rainforest villas.
