My best friend and his girlfriend came over for a visit tonight. He used to be a JW, drifted away, and is a very spiritually enlightened person. She is a Mormon.
I know........ what the hell is up with that?...... lol
But seriously, she has told him that, (despite the fact that they really enjoy each other's company and get along very well, etc.) unless he becomes a Mormon, they can never stay together. Knowing this, I avoided discussing with her that he is in the top 2 percentile of those who WILL NEVER become Mormon or any other high control religion.
We did have an interesting discussion. It was amazing how quickly she condemned the JW's. She refused to make the connection that, while she thought the JW blood transfusion thing was proof that they were so inferior to her faith, the fact that Mormons look down on a person for even having a beer (we did actually have three each..... .. lol) is accepted by her faith as making it even more correct.
The more major point was that she continuously said that she, as well as every other human on earth, has freedom to do as they choose, but when the reality of her and my friend "choosing" to be together and happy was put in perspective to his having to conform to her beliefs, she resorted to the fact that her "choice" was to follow God.
How do people (myself being guilty of it for years.... yikes.....) not realise that freedom to choose one thing is really NO choice at all? I hope my friend chooses freedom rather than slavery.
