I saw this story on TV on the ABC news this morning. They showed shots of the courtroom full of Amish men and women, many of them crying. One of the attorneys being interviewed said that the court room was full of Amish who had come in support of the abusers rather than the abused. I found an article about the case. Really sad.

Perhaps it would be good to give ABC lots of feedback about this story and how important these kinds of stories are, as so many people are hurt in the same way by these same religious codes of silence, only in other religions...

Dan Miller, a local Amish bishop, told ABC News that the Byler brothers received the most severe punishment under Amish tradition. Both were banned from church activity for several weeks and made to publicly ask for forgiveness.

WOW, what a harsh punishment. I'm glad she came forward. He deserves to be in prison. Although in my opinion, he still got off easy.

As I attended the SNAP conference, I found that abuse in religious communities was not unique to JWs, besides Catholics, representatives were there from Protestant communities. We have read about this problem in the LDS/Mormon cmmunity.

Here is a website for additional info about the problem in the Amish community.
