Forget all the jokes about the Loonie ...it's not far off 1:1 (and heading that way) !

It is also losing out to the Euro:

So, shall I swap all my dollars for plastic beads or is it not that bad? ... yet?

Doesn't that make exporting goods easier for the US?

So your next car can be a US made Ford at a bargain price or some of our tasty beer!

ConfusedJW, does the US export many goods any more? I thought we all but quit most manufacturing--we don't make much.

Lol @ Simon. I saw US $$ referred to as Euro-trash.

You are right - we mostly export culture. Movies, TV, that great California wine, the wonderful Wisconsin Cheese (be sure to spit out the hairs as they wear it out there to cure it)

    What else do we manufacture?

Oh food. We grow a lot of that in the mid west I think.

And religion. Where would the world be without our exporting JWism?

    That's it, that's the list.

Imagine if all the OPEC countries switch their petrodollars from the US greenbacks to the EURO?

Maybe then this Canadian's loonies will be able to buy some decent stuff across the border for a change.

I'm old enough, but not too old to remember when the canadian dollar was always higher than the american. What a flashback if that happens again

    Wow, it's getting worse !

I guess China and Japan have decided there are better places to invest their money?

Part of the problem is the HUGE deficit that the US has run up. Loweing the dollar price reduces the pain of what hey have to repay ... but they still have to repay it and it's still gonna hurt.

If we get back to 2:1 dollar to the pound then visiting the US will be like becoming kings or visiting the ex Eastern-block nations where your pound goes a long, long way. What a dilema ... do I break my boycott of the US to get a chep holiday in the sun?!

BTW: Don't get too down ... a weak US dollar ends up hurting us too 'cause it drags us down with it.
