after talking to my dad last night, i realise there is NO SCRIPTUAL reason to NOT celebrate thanksgiving, he just kept repeating how "its a fake, its a scam"
how is it fake? IS there any scriptual reasoning? after looking up some stuff on the watchtower library, it basicly just says to be no part of the world.
any LOGICAL reasoning?
Well what the hell are you doing with Thanksgiving except getting together with loved ones and having a meal which may include a particular type of poultry, anyway? Are you gonna avoid using the toilet just because pagans happen to go to the bathroom the same way??? People eat, people get together with family and friends - if you avoid that in certain ways and certain forms there's only one word that adequetly describes it: anal. It's just being fixated at outward behavior, which if anything is not all that spiritual.
i tried explaining that to him, but he just kept saying how it was originally a patriotic hioliday, thanking god for stuff. but JWS are supposed to thank god EVERYDAY.....i didnt understand it either..okay, so waht stops them from thanking him more on one partiocular day??
Well it kind of has to do with the no part of the world crap, basically defining yourself by being the opposite of others. To be frank though this is something worth considering by exJWs - at a certain point I would hope we all get past the apostate kick, even if you keep doing work in that regard it's just a matter of living freely. I don't celebrate Thanksgiving because I can now, and it's prohibited by the JWs - I really don't care what they do, if friends invite me to a meal though I will accept on that basis.
Muhahahaha! You are ALL wrong! JWs celebrate thanks giving wholesale. Most of the people in our cong go to thanks giving to magic mountian, and one of our close JW freinds said she couldn't go to a theme park because she was celebrating TG with her family!
(I guess this is the to F* cheap to celebrate X-mas doctrine)
