hi heathen, I think the Watchtower became what it is today when "The Judge" J. F. Rutherford took control. To Rutherford there were only two ways of doing things, the wrong way, and the "Rutherford way" He was very authoritarian, and tolerated no dissent from anyone else. He molded the Watchtower so that he was the absolute head of it, and yet at the same time said he was "not the head of the Jehovah's Witnesses", that God was. But Rutherford had the final say on matters! Even after Rutherford died in 1942, 62 years ago, the authoritarian nature of those in control, at Bethel, CO's, elders, continued on down to present day. --VM44

I agree with you JW religion has more to do with Rutherford than Russel. JW growing in the Russell's soil (apocaliptic), has the authoritarian "theocratic" structure of Rutherford , working like a company "a la" Knor and tinted with the crazy ideas of F. Franz.
