I can't be the first to comment on this but if it was not mentioned before U2's new album has a track titled "Yahweh". Here are the lyrics: U2 LYRICS "Yahweh"

    Take these shoes
Click clacking down some dead end street
    Take these shoes
    And make them fit
    Take this shirt
Polyester white trash made in nowhere
    Take this shirt
    And make it clean, clean
    Take this soul
Stranded in some skin and bones
    Take this soul
    And make it sing

    Yahweh, Yahweh
Always pain before a child is born
    Yahweh, Yahweh
Still I'm waiting for the dawn

    Take these hands
    Teach them what to carry
    Take these hands
    Don't make a fist
    Take this mouth
    So quick to criticise
    Take this mouth
    Give it a kiss

    Yahweh, Yahweh
Always pain before a child is born
    Yahweh, Yahweh
Still I'm waiting for the dawn

Still waiting for the dawn, the sun is coming up
The sun is coming up on the ocean
This love is like a drop in the ocean
This love is like a drop in the ocean

    Yahweh, Yahweh
Always pain before a child is born
    Yahweh, tell me now
Why the dark before the dawn?

    Take this city
A city should be shining on a hill
    Take this city
    If it be your will
What no man can own, no man can take
    Take this heart
    Take this heart
    Take this heart
    And make it break

Much like other songs of theirs, this seems to be a 'gospelesque' call for social awareness. I was at least delighted they didn't use 'Jehovah'.

    Yahweh
    Take this heart
    And make it break

he's already done that for me!

Like all of U2's lyrics these can be taken so many ways. I interpreted the song to mean that if God is there, why isn't HE doing something more? Why does he take our hearts only to break them? That was the way I felt the lyrics, anyway.

The whole cd is a masterpiece, though. Yahweh is actually my least favorite song of all.

"Sometimes you can't make it on your own." is much more meaningful to me..."Let me take some of the punches for you tonight." with lyrics and melodies like that, who needs heaven for anything?

Bono can be a bit annoying at times and cringey too(kissing Girls hands at Concerts etc lol)but i really think his Heart is genuinely in the right place. He seems to really care about Social injustices, and not just dropping the Thirld World debt....he certainly gets more done than the slow moving wheels of Government.

Kudos to him. Also im a huge Fan of theirs and must get the new CD!!

    Interesting Lyrics.

I remember when I first heard "Sunday Bloody Sunday", and wondered who's singing and what's that all about. I've been enjoying their mix of message and music every since. Still haven't gotten their new CD. I'll admit I've got a "baser", that also enjoys the relatively more hedonistic Def Leppard.

Just bought the new CD, love the song Vertigo. Haven't heard the song Yahweh yet. Will try to listen to it today.

    I just found this Bono quote on a huge U2 fansite called Interference: it was info gathering about the new CD before the release;

*Update: 7/14/03 (rumor) Jahweh "a tune with the title of a God as he/she is known in another religion" Thanks to Surge

U2 loves NYC...they must have had more than their share of seeing JW's in the city. I'd love to ask Bono if the song is about JW's.

U2 has a strong religious background.
