You ever notice how people like to open up a part of themselves to the board. I think all these many different people from different backrounds but all sharing a common bond,, to be a good thing. I do feel a group like this would be worthy of a psychologist's attention. This has to be very healthy inwardly.

I think our easy going moderators who don't moderate very much to be an important part of the therapeutic value.

i think it depends on your approach... if it's used as a forum to perpetuate anger, it can be theraputic, but not in a healing sense, and nothing gets solved. i myself post and read posts mostly for a sense of closure and community. just knowing im not alone and that most of the people on this site have gone through way worse things than i did, helps me to appreciate that my parents raised me the best way they knew how. nobody in my family was or is out to get me. but they are a product of indoctrination. knowing this doesn't mean im not angry at the watchtower, and it certainly doesn't mean i don't fight for my right to believe what i want with my family. i guess im just lucky that my family will take the time to argue with me instead of just shunning me. i really feel bad for the people who can't express themselves in any way about their spiritual stance that happens to be non-jdub thinking... to me that would be one of the worst things to go through. but at least we can do it here. and even though we all believe different things here, we appreciate each others' rights to believe what we want. i think that's very theraputic.

In all honesty, I do consider this a form of group therapy. Theres quite a bit of recovery that goes on here and recovery is truly needed from much of the pain and horrors we've all suffered in the WTS.

No one could more effectively relate to what we have experienced. Who could be better listened to than those of us who have been down this particular path?

Before coming to the light, my attempt at seeking counselling for my being terrorized by the teachings of the Society were of absolutely no value. Just another Phd. or MSW who couldn't relate to my experience, I was just another nut job.

Although I realize now that there are cult specialist who deal with this kind of problem, try telling that to an erring individual that regards the Society as the mouthpeice of Almighty God, and your likely never going to seek that type of therapy out in the first place.

Yes, it is a group therapy. Does this mean that Minimus needs therapy the most?

when studying the effectiveness of psychology, most studies found that 1/3 got better, 1/3 got worse and 1/3 stayed the same

which turned out to be no different from seeing a good friend rather than a psychologist.... so sure, groups like this can be very beneficial to 1/3
