I just went down to Queen's Unversity here in Kingston, Ontario Canada. I am doing some research that I hope Maximus, Marvin and Waiting will find interesting.

On the way out I got stopped by a lady who called herself "Lilly". She had a young man with her who had down sydrome. Lillay said they were from the 349 Mack Street Kingdom Hall. She wanted to give me a copy of the most recent WT rag and wanted me to attend the next service at the Kingdom Hall. I was very nice to her and told her I feel very sorry for her seeing she told me she had been a publisher through the 1975 crisis and the 1995 this generation change (Note: I don't really try to debate seeing I go by the slogan "never get into a pi$$ing contest with a skunk").

However, I really felt like puking after I realized that someone had seduced a young man with down sydrome into this organization. Just think if that young man needed blood due to a trauma. He has been "conned" by the WTS and could loose his life all because he didn't have the mental know how to stay away from these con artists. I know Canadian law through the Children's Aid Society can help the kids of the WTS who need blood transfusions but I am unclear about those who have mental capabilities that are lower than other humans.

Sick sick sick sick - where the hell is that barf bag!!!!

I have seen many Down Syndrome people at JW events, and have a nephew with this problem. I doubt they have the capability to learn the JW doctrine. We studied with one couple who had a DS baby while studying, and later were baptized. She is 16 now, or 17. They are still dubs, but although she is very smart for a DS person, she doesn't understand the doctrines, and just goes along. I am sure most DS attenders were born there, or come with their parents.

Don't feel too sorry for Down Syndrome kids. When this girl was 13, she had a life threatening issue come up, during a District convention, and the hospital wanted to transfuse her. The liason committee said to let them do it, since they would get a court order and do it anyway, and they didn't want the 'flack' with that hospital. So they did transfuse her. She would have died, as she was in congestive heart failure, and white as white can be. Very few red blood cells. It's amazing she is still alive.

Oops, never clicked onto this thread - figured "the guys" were telling another real life episode. Then I noticed your name ..."gee, he doesn't seem the type to do that...."

I know a couple with a DS child - very advanced. I hope what Mulan said was right, as this girl also has severe heart problems (she's 6, several major surgeries already completed.)

That's good to know, hope it's universal for Liason Committees to avoid 'flack.'

Well, ain't you a sweetie for mentioning Lil' Ol' Me with the Big Guy names. Btw, did you know I was a woman? Sometimes it's assumed (no picture) that I'm a man - then when jw men find out they're actually conversing about stuff with a woman - they scuttle off.

That male jw learning is hard to get past.

I'm so impressed that you've done so much research for jw's to learn about their own religion - and you're not, never have been, a jw. You're right about discussing with a True Believer - like pi$$in' in the wind.

    Thanking you once again,

    Hi waiting,

I am typing this while working. I have three things on the go right now - on phone plus working on a case -plus trying my best to keep this up.

I don't really care if you are a male or female - I like all humans as long as they realize I have my moments of "glory" (aka stupidity). And I am really glad and honoured to write to you.

If you see me use the phrase "guys" - it is my lingo for talking to "all" people (male and female) in a crowd. Just a thingy I picked up years ago at university along with smoking. I stopped the smoking in 1994 but not the "lingo". If you become offended - let me know and I will stop.

Your comment on men and women in the dub halls is interesting. I have a wanna bee dub "she" friend who actually thinks that there is no discrimination of the sexes at the hall!!!!! I took particular pains in April 2000 in explaining the sex bigotry just like the sexual orientation and creed bigotry done by the WTS. But even after I said, she just doesn't think the sex dicrimination is real and is definitely not a big deal. How can you argue with that logic. As Farkel would say - she is intellectually lazy.

Anyway that occurrence did happen to me two days ago and it really upset me a little - the truly innocent not protected from a dangerous cult. BTW as you may have noticed in the other thread I went to another city nearby to where I lived and have held a couple of "test" conversations on the white blood cell issue with two "random" JWs doing their Saturday walk abouts. Just stunning to see their faces when I show them the PSC autographing procedure article. But I know that the "wall" will have been erected by now and stopped the cognitive dissonance.

Take care Waiting and like I said, now that Priestley is done, I now think I may (note the word "may") have another one that will really hit people hard on the WTS blood booklet issue. But like I said this will take some more time.

    Take care - gotta go

    Hawkaw,

I know your pain from an up close and personal standpoint. My mother is a JW, and she is mentally handicapped. She was sucked in around the late 70's, but never got baptized until the early 90's. I feel that they prey upon people in a state of lowered mentally capability, because they know that they won't question what they say. It makes me sick as well...I have tried many times, to show my mother proof that they are wrong, but she just won't listen...she's brainwashed. I think I need to use the barf bag now too.
    My Regards,
    Joanne

Point of order here on the "guys" issue. According to Webster's the word "guys" is not necesarily gender specific and is appropriate for use with a mixed gender (or even confused gender) crowd.
