Threats to the DUMBO community by the WTS:
"the alternative to the towers threatened by the society was a six- or eightstory parking garage so the Jehovah?s Witnesses could move their cars quickly from their lot at Pier 5, which is slated for use in the Brooklyn Bridge Park."
Basically, "Hey, if you don't like our plans for a residence, then we'll just throw up this ugly-ass 8-story parking garage. So approve our plans, and accept our offer to rebuild the subway entrance and install new lightposts in the DUMBO area and we'll call it a wash."
I know, I've seen this tactic used a few times when going before variance hearing boards. "Don't want to adjust the codes for me? Fine, then I'll build this other hideous structure which does meet your current building and zoning codes."
That's a pretty dirty trick, but I guess it worked for the WTS.
BTW, I've seen worse architectural renderings, but I can't think of where.
The "Kingdom Services" building dept have access and use a professional architectural rendering program [Autodesk Viz], but they must have thrown this hand rendering together at the last minute to "entice" the board in contrast to thier 8-story parking garage threat.
