These programmes are just compulsive viewing!

"Flog it". "Going for a song". "Cash in the attic"."Bargain Hunt".

These programmes all follow roughly the same format. Someone has something, usually quite old, that they think might be of value. They turn up at the location of one of the aforementioned TV programmes, have their goods valued, then they trundle off to an auction somewhere to see how much they get for the stated item.

But it's gripping stuff! I'm hopelessly addicted!

Now they're doing the same thing with houses. Then they come up with another programme about buying properties abroad. There is a plethora of these programmes on Brit TV at the moment.

Is anyone else addicted too this sort of thing like I am? Do they even have this sort of TV viewing elswhere in the World?

Oops..gotta go..David Dickson, cheap as chips and all that..

Yes, we have Antiques Roadshow. Really good show. It makes me want to show up with some of my grandma's stuff, next time they come to Seattle.

Antiques Road Show, as Mulan mentioned.

This Old House a home remodel show focusing on older craftsman, victorian, etc., homes. But it's a remodel show. Along the same vein these days there are a number of remodeling and homebuilding shows.

Then there is "reality TV" and the home makeovers or knockdown-rebuild for needy families.

I like the Wood Wright Shop. PBS show on old-style woodworking without electric tools!

Then there's that (Jewish - no racism intended) guy with the incredible powered woodshop. He demonstrates how to build reproduction furniture.

Now, for some real fun, about 9 months out of the year there are garage sales every weekend. Estate sales all year round, and antique shops. I know of a couple of charity resale shops (i.e. Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc., ) that have what I call "bin stores". Last chance warehouse where the stuff that's not sold at their regular stores is dumped. I've gotten some awesome bargains, like a $130 pet door insert for a sliding glass door for..... $4. Good condition, only a couple of scratches.

Now, first weekend in November Catlan Gable private school has their annual rummage sale. It is in a 1acre warehouse! It's one of the largest rummage sales in the US.

And for some real entertainment, eBay.

    Hugs
