Who here are not affected by holidays? I am not, perhaps because I was raised under the JW doctine but I do not view them as evil as the JW do. For those that have not been informed I no longer believe in the JW doctrine. I dont view holidays as an important factor to my development as a human.

hm I would venture to say that if you were unaffected by the holidays then it would never be a subject for you to talk about. I was raised a jw and it did affect me. So much that I didnt want my kids to grow up like that. What I have learned on the outside is Christmas and the holidays are what you make it - having fun with family and friends and being with the ones you love and showing your loved ones how much you love them, not by gifts but by actions.

I was born into the cult 1959 and 'baptised' nine years later. Left the 'troof' nearly 25 years ago but it didn't leave me until 5 years ago.

This is the first year I've had a Christmas tree. My young daughter calls it Kwanzaa/Christmas. I'm incorporating my new Biblical beliefs in our lifestyle. She's known spirituality since she could talk.

My older brothers experienced all of the holidays even when they were in the 'troof'. They always seemed to be a lot more adjusted in later years than I have ever been. What I have learned, putting aside the inaccuracies of X-mas, is this: The Borgs teachings are designed to cause feelings of alienation. I've found it hard to become a part of anything even my being a part of my own family [not to say everybody will respond the same way to alienation but, you will see the many ways it has affected xjdubs

We opened presents today and it was a joy to hear my child say how thankful she was to be together with her family. I don't claim to know much about anything but, to me, this is healthy and real.

I went to Ralph's (supermarket) tonight to see if they were open. The lot was nearly full, as was the adjoining lot for Rite Aid. It was great to be able to shop and have a normal everyday experience on Christmas. In the past, while a JW, Christmas Day felt so desolate and lonely. Only certain restaurants and the movie theaters were open with a few exceptions.

But this year, at least in my neighborhood, even McDonald's was open tonight. The corner intersection seemed all lit up with the usual "Open" signs. Very different this year. Also, the checker at the market did not give any kind of holiday greeting. That was comfy.

Things are looking up! Obviously I live in a highly diverse cultural area, and it sure shows.
