Religiose delusions

These differ from religious beliefs in that they are distorted and rigidly held beliefs which would be rejected by other of the same religious persuasion, though they have their initial origin in orthodox religious beliefs. The patient may announce that he is the recipient of divine messages or revelations and that he is to save the world, perhaps describing himself as the new messiah. The road to salvation may unfortunately be paved by rather odd practices. One patient announced that pepper contained the 'divine essence' and would 'concentrate the Christ beam' wherever it was distributed. He paraded up and down a busy city street during the rush hour, bringing traffic to a standstill, and throwing handfuls of pepper into the air as he delivered a rambling and disjointed harangue, until he was eventually arrested by two explosively sneezing constables. These delusions are commonest in schizophrenics.

Thought it may explain a couple of people around here, although they may not know who they are.
