There was a man...

...he was a very happy and self-satisfied man; a man who needed nothing from anyone else.

But he got this notion to move west and establish a special place for him and his wife. And so he did!... with hundreds and thousands of acres of pristine land, a bonanza of wonderful things!

As he and his wife lived there, others heard about this incredible place, and asked to move there, and in his beneficience and generosity he invited anyone and everyone to join his community: free land, plenty of food, no fears, life abundant.

As this idyllic community developed, avenues and streets were made, so that everyone could easily get around to meet with each other.

But it became apparent to this happy man that there were certain hazards associated with these avenues and streets: There would be accidents! So, in his wisdom, he advised to the now-large community that some sort of ambulance service be established, for the sake of everyone.

However, one of his own sons (on the city council) took issue with that proposal, saying: "How shall we pay for this service?"

And the majority agreed, and the ambulance service was rejected.

Well, on a certain wintery day, this happy man was standing at a street-corner in his wonderful community, and lo-and-behold! A hit-and-run driver smashes into a lady, who lies bleeding to death on the sub-zero asphalt.

And this happy man decides to stand back, with his stop-clock in hand, to tick off the time it takes for someone to arrive and help this hapless dying lady.

When the corpse is dutifully inserted into the bodybag, the police very adamantly demand of that happy man: "Why didn't you do anything? Why didn't you even so much as put your very warm coat over her? If you had done even that little thing, you might well have saved her from death!!"

He said: "I was simply trying to prove that my son was wrong, and you all should have taken my advice."

C'mon XJW... we are all Happy Man... in our own sick little way we would let her die just to prove a point. Not literally of course, but we have all allowed something to happen just to prove a point.

I am quite sure this thread is intended as a dig at God tho.

    Then again, I don't matter.

Good debunking of the particular JW theodicy.

Yeah, much better than that stupid illustration they teach you about letting people talk bad about your family and beat up your kids, or um... how did that stupid illustration go? Oh yeah, if someone accuses you of being a bad father, don't dare stand up for yourself. Wait until all the bad stuff happens and you are still standing, or, er.... Damn illustration. Made no sense then, no wonder I can't remember it now...

I'm really not much of a "creative writer," am I? LOL

Yes, the idea I had was the WTS explanation of theodicy.

Every now and then a very simple analogy (like this story) strikes me, and I can only shake my head in bewilderment at how willingly and completely I believed such a stupid defense of Jehovah's supposed reasons for allowing 50,000,000,000 of his human sons and daughters to die miserable and unfulfilled lives...and many millions of those sons and daughters being destroyed at his own command.

But, as the scripture says: "God giveth, and God taketh away."

    I love God.
