Life after death, of a sort

    Greetings to the board:

Some might remember my posting about my stepfather who passed away unexpectedly a few weeks ago. Since then, I've been spending some time helping out my mother with paperwork including handling the incoming mail.

Yesterday she got a wonderful letter from the New England Organ Donor Bank. While they of course do not mention identifying details, they were able to inform her that her decision to donate her husband's organs has given the gift of life to a father of three who had terminal hepatic disease. The recipient's liver transplant operation went well and he is expected to make a full recovery. He and his family are said to be extremely grateful, and this helps soften the loss to my mother and myself. My mom cried when I read her the letter and I must admit that my eyes watered a little bit, too.

To the WTBTS: Just as you gave up on the asinine prohibitions on vaccinations and organ transplatations, it's far past time to dump the false and deadly restrictions on blood transfusions. You can give it up just like you gave up on the first two and I doubt if you'll lose too many members over it. You guys gain nothing good from prohibiting live-saving medical care. Why be stiff-necked when you have a chance to look good for a change and actually help some people? Also, I know how much you hate all the "evil" opposers and "apostates"; letting go of the phony blood doctrine will really take a lot of wind out of their sails. Plus you could probably hire more lawyers and buy more real estate if you didn't have to expend so much in resources on the archaic and non-scriptural transfusion abstention.

It's time to do the right thing, Brooklyn. Long past time. What are you waiting for?

    Hey Skim:

I wish I could agree. The arrogance of this organization will prove to be it's undoing in this matter though. They have gone so far as to parade the victims of their policy as heroes and matyrs for their faith. Imagine the uproar this would cause if they all of a sudden flip-flop on this issue. Imagine the financial ramifications of the litigation that will result. If there is any change in the policy on blood it will alomost certainly be done quietly, but I don't see how they can do it. Too many eyes are open and watching this one.

    Skimmer,
Unfortunitly the Society would never admit it is wrong. It might over time allow more and more fractional ingredients of blood. However, admit they are wrong, never. They couldn't admit they were wrong to tell me I can't wear a beard. I will never get an apology from them. All we can hope for, is God will hold them acountable for their bloodshed regarding refusal of blood.
