The WTBS is very sly in its use of elipsis. Sometimes they brazenly omit material that directly contradicts the point they are making. Other times it is simply for brevity. ( Sometimes they brazenly omit material that directly contradicts the point they are making.) is that a polite way of saying that sometimes they use ellipsis as a form of deception?

    Tenrats,

Another usage of bad journalistic practice is using quotes with no person or organization attached. This is very common in the tabloids. You see it in the WT material. By placing something in quotations gives the statement an impression of authority or fact. e.g. As a well known journalist / scientist / Greek scholar recently said " put anything here " shows how we?re a great organization. There can be no law suits because who said it?

I use the form occasionally. Especially in quoting to Christians who don't tend to accept anything other than the bible. If I use a quote from Islamic sources, I may use the elipse to leave out "Muhammed" so that the esence of the quote is focused upon rather than the source..Many quotes from other religions sound identical to the bible but most Xtians refuse to consider the wisdom of those scriptures if they know the Apostle Paul of Jesus didn't say it..
