I can re-confirm the following from my weekend.

The District Overseer, Brother Anderson, a very good, folksey speaker with lots of anecdotes, did indeed tell the story about calling on a distinguished British gentleman who turned out to be the retired head of the literature department at Oxford. He told this as a personal anecdote, as in it happened to him, not some other vague publisher. Supposedly, this individual praised the Kindom Ministry School as the reason why Witnesses are so good at the door to door work, and that people pay $$$ for equivalent training in communications courses at school. I dunno, I do feel that I have benefited from the KM school, but so could somebody going to Toastmasters.....

So, to the previous poster, was the talk given by the same DO?

He also gave the cruise ship variation of the old AIDS Mary Urban Legend (AIDS Harry?) Big loud groan from the audience when he hit the punchline. (aaannnnddd a rim-shot from the orchestra pit...)

What, be able to verify an anecdote? Ain't gonna happen. Or it will happen about the time dogs and cats answer the door and tell the housholder that no one's home....

Giving this guy the benefit of the doubt, this statement (if it actually was said) is partially true. Seeing as Witnesses are trained at such a young age to become public speakers, there's little doubt that they have an advantage over "worldly" people in this respect. And yes, people do pay lots of $$$ as adults to be trained in public speaking. I know at my university that I'm attending in the Speech Communications Program, they've got classes that teach you how to speak in public. Each of the classes are a half-credit course and cost about $500.00 so ya, you can spend a couple of bucks learning how to be a good public speaker. Students in Business and Accounting are required to take these courses as well. There's over 15 sections of this class each term, but the classes fill up immediately and there's always a long waiting list, as this class is very much in demand.

It's possible that someone actually did give the Borganization a compliment, and even though alot here are very bitter and angry, I think most will agree that this is one of the very few positive things that we got out of this religion. Be that as it may, I sincerely doubt that this "retired Professor" would be so complimentary if he was aware of the mind-control and insane doctrines that the Organization is also responsible for.

Do you actually mean the "Theocratic Ministry School" rather than the "Kingdom Ministry School"?

Yes, I meant Theocratic Ministry School, not the KM. I knew I was getting that wrong.

Also, the DO's name is Andrews, not Anderson, as I previously stated.

Oh gag me. (I say that a lot about JWs.)

That old, tired saying that they are getting the equivalent of a college education by reading the magazines and doing the ministry school...blech...another JW lie.

I have a Master's Degree, and I'm here to tell ya, it isn't true! Not by a long shot! I learned a million times as much in my 1st year in college than I ever did by all the years of JW brainwashing (which is very different than learning).

Precisely what you have to keep in mind when you hear "experiences" in which "worldy people" say something nice about the dubs. They're only commenting on what they've seen, in a vacuum.
