What do jws say concerning the soul?
As far as I remember they always say the concept of immortal soul is absolutely ridicoulous. How can a person continue to live after death? That's why JWs don't believe in it.
But they take one exception to this rule. Actually 144 000 exceptions. When you are an annointed JW and you die, you can go to heaven as a spiritual being the moment you die. Wait isn't it exactly what the immortal soul doctrine says? Well, at least it sounds different ;-).

"What do jws say concerning the soul?"
It doesn't exist without the vessel (body)
Can't answer as a JW, but it always confused me that if the JWs say ...
soul = person
person = JW (if they study the troof)
JW = live forever.
So what is the deal with their teaching of no immortal soul?
If Jesus was just a man like everyone else, why do they say he was resurrected a spirit creature?
If all those that were re-created by jhvh's memory had one thing that made it the real person and not just a replicant clone - wouldn't that one real thing be considered "the person"?
If no one possesses a single thing that makes them unique will JWs go by looks and stored memories only for identification? (like they do now?)
PCs worshipping the big hardrive in the sky, desparately trying to avoid an update of their software. LOL
I believe they trade their soul to the WT, thinking it is a ticket to fantasy land without the drugs

Good observations. Most people that teach "soul sleep", like the Adventists who influenced Russell, do teach that the soul is some sort of an immaterial encapsulation of a person which remains after the body dies. But it remains in a state of unconsciousness until judgement day. This is due to the presupposition that human existence is a union of the soul and body and one cannot function without the other. So on judgement day, a new glorified body is put into union with the sleeping soul, thus maintaining some continuity of existence. I wonder how and when the Bible Student/WTS movement diverged into their own unique "duplicate copy" doctrine.
WillPower,
So what is the deal with their teaching of no immortal soul?
Or how is the concept of immortal soul different from the contept of annointed Christians getting angel-like immortality the moment they die?
