If one wants to really enjoy Mardi Gras, he won't go to New Orleans. Way toooooooooo many people! I had more fun when I went to one of the local Cajun Mardi Gras celebrations (for example, in Mamou, Louisiana).

Kenneson, I've heard Mamou is great! Real people, family oriented, good food and music. Not a tourist trap like New Orleans. I know it is silly, but I enjoy being on the curb elbow to elbow fighting for five dollar a gross trinkets.
