Hey Rexy boy: You claimed in your 'Flat Earth' post to AlanF that Jehovah states in the Bible to the Hebrews in six (6) places that the earth is a Sphere. So, I looked this up. And to be sure I looked up 'Sphere', 'Globe', 'Ball' and 'Circle' and found only two references to 'Circle.' I then reported this. I noted that you did not provide the citations or quotes where this is from in the Bible. This gave you opportunity to address my observations, and provide specific references to support your claim.

Now here is how you respond:

Hey Not So Amazing, How exacting is hebrew to english translating? How exacting is it to ANY language? Do you have any idea what I am talking about?

I understand the fundamentals of translating. That is why I searched for four words Sphere, Globe, Ball, and Circle in an effort to find your acclaimed six (6) references. I wanted to see your point and give it a fair hearing. When you respond, instead of providing any references you discuss in hazy terms translational difficulties.

    You continued,

I am always amazed at how literal/rationalistic ex-JWs continue to be.

I stated nothing about being literal, holding to literal views on translation, or any other aspects of translating. I merely in a first round attempt gave you the benefit of the doubt that you understood what you were talking about, and searched to try and find what you claim is there, and then gave you opportunity to provide the same. Instead you attempt to make some assertion about me as a person that neither makes sense, fits who I am, and certainly does not support your claims.

    You continued,

You think that the Bible is directly from God to english speaking Americans in a literal and wholly accurate format, right?

Your attempt to presume what I think shows your shallow thinking ability and your ineptness in being objective, analyzing facts, evidence, and data. I do not take the Bible literally as can be seen from a lengthy post I made sometime ago regarding the Flood of Noah. I fully understand that the Old Testament / Hebrew Scriptures were written for Hebrews in their language as spoken at the time. In fact, what we today call the Bible is actually compiled by the Roman Catholic Church. The scrolls and books as they were written over 1500 year time frame for the Hebrews are not organized as the western Bibles are. So what is your point? Are you attempting to try to make yourself look better by trying to make some shallow attempt to talk down to me? It sure looks as if that is what you are trying to do.

    You concluded,

    Chew on that for awhile.

You have given nothing on which for anyone to 'chew'! Again, where are your references citing the six (6) places in the Hebrew Scriptures where Jehovah told Israel that the earth is a Sphere, a Globe or anything that resembles your claim. You made the claim, now it is up to you to prove it. Please set aside your personal attacks and attempt to talk from 'on-high' to people you believe are beneath you, and instead focus on the facts, the hard evidence, and relevant data. - Amazing

Rex is just a troll. I am gald you keep trying to hold this person accountable for what he or she says. Just once I would like these people like Rex to back up what they say with real proof. Just like in the Watchtower articles. They make a quote, and never say who said it, so I can verify it for myself.

I get so sick of JW's who try to claim that the Bible had
    scientific foreknowledge.

Yes, in Job 26:10, the Bible does speak about "the circle
of the earth". However, technically, the earth is not a
circle, it is a sphere. It is apparent that the early Hebrews
considered the earth to be roughly pizza shaped - circular,
    but flat.

JW's also seem to have very short attention spans, because
the very next verse, Job 26:11, speaks about "the pillars
of heaven". This is an erroneous assumption that was
    common among ancient people.

The majority of what the Bible says about science is very
simplistic, and in many cases wrong (rabbits chewing cud, etc).

I would also like to make a point about translating. I thought
that God saw to it that accurate copies of his word were
available throughout history. Why is it necessary to dig
through ancient manuscripts of dead languages to determine
meanings? Can't God preserve his own book in tact?
