Ever noticed that doctors' offices are always in hard to park places?

This week Mrs Ozzie and I have had appointments at a seemingly never-ending list of doctors and radiology establishments and each time there's nowhere to park. What the heck do you do with a patient who's an invalid?

Why, I even got booked by the parking police for my trouble! There just isn't anywhere to park! Wouldn't you think that car parking would be a prime consideration for someone setting up in lucrative medical practice. Ever noticed that? Or is it just us downunder?

It's probably because GPs can be real cheapskates!
Hospitals tend to be the worst, for parking, in my humble experience.
It's ironic, for all the reasons you've pointed out.

    Regards to Mrs.O.

not to get off topic; but concerning medical parking, I have a funny story to tell....

last year during a routine doctors visit I was told that I had to drive myself IMMEDIATLY to the hospital and check myself in; where I stayed for 3 days. It was an emergency that warranted this.

After 3 days when I emerged; I was presented with an $85.00 parking fee. Needless to say I was bulldozed by this fee; which had to be payed before I could drive my car off the premises. They would not take a credit card; and I only had $60.00 in my pocket. I begged and pleaded with the guy in the parking booth; explaining I was a patient ( he did not care) ; and this was all the money in my pocket and why am I being charged for parking when my 3 day 2 nite stay here cost me more than a trip to the Carribean Islands?

The parking attendent took pity on me and validated the parking stub for $60. and let me leave ....

    ...worst vacation I ever had....

Ozzie, we have medi-vans in our community, very convenient. How about suggesting this to your local reps?

Do ya'll have handicapped parking there ozzie?

I had that problem the other day when I went to the dentist...two places in front of the building to park in a downtown area with no other parking. (good thing I was there early and snagged one) Course the one I got was under a tree that littered all kinds of crud on my car, I had to wash it right after I left. No joke, it was NASTY!

On another note, but still venting about doctors...don't you hate it that they castrate you if you are 5 minutes late (some even charge you) but don't mind letting you sit there for 30 to 45 minutes after your appointment time. Like your time isn't as valuable as theirs. Chaps my hide!!!!

    to you and the missus...

I have never had problems parking at my local M.D's office nor at any of the hospitals that we have here in Wichita.

i have to drive my companion to the drs and hospitals all the time and he's in a wheelchair. its irritating to see cars in handicapped spots without tags. many times i have to let him out in front of the door (which takes 5 min to unload and assemble his chair). then drive around and find a spot somewhere and walk a mile back. people actually yell and honk at us when im trying to unload his chair.

parking garages are the worst.. if you dont get a handicapped spot you have to park and they only have wheelchair ramps in one spot on each level and i gotta push his 190 pounds around forever before getting to the ramp.

I hear ya ozzie, we have the same problem here in Canada, I think it does come back to doctors being cheap. I recently had to take my two daughters 5 and 6 to a pediatrican's appt., there was no parking at all, just a driveway with a card in it. I had to park in a sub shop parking lot and hope i didn't get towed. Funny that a sub shop can provide parking for its customers and a doctor's office can't. Drives me nuts too!

P.S. maybe post a help wanted ad on the doctor's office door when you leave, i am going to try it, he he. Here's a sample,

PARKING SPACE FOR BUSY DOCTORS OFFICE REQUIRED

CAUSE IF I CAN'T FIND A SPACE NEXT TIME SOMEONE'S GONNA NEED A DOCTOR!
